Sweetened drinks at root of global obesity, type 2 diabetes epidemic

The world has a major drinking problem, and it is a killer.
The drink of choice is not alcohol, but sodas, fruit drinks, sport drinks, flavored waters, and other beverages loaded with sugar in any of its incarnations, according to investigators who spoke at a symposium sponsored by the International Atherosclerosis Society.
The human body has adapted through evolution to imbibing water, breast milk, and little else–certainly not Coke, Pepsi, Hawaiian Punch, or Gatorade. But our acquired taste for sugar-sweetened beverages and for sweeter food than what our primal ancestors could have imagined is in large measure responsible for expanding waistlines and rising rates of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, said Dr. Barry Popkin of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“We’ve had, in the high-income world, two remarkable changes over the last 20-30 years,” Dr. Popkin said. “One is a shift away from water, low-sweetened coffees and teas, and a little bit of alcohol, to a diet dominated by caloric sweeteners in everything we consume, particularly beverages.”
Study findings suggest that when infants are exposed to sweet tastes, they will express a preference for sweet foods even years later. Yet there are virtually no long-term studies showing how such exposure to sweetness and sweet food affects caloric needs and subsequent eating patterns, Dr. Popkin said.
“In the quantities now consumed, fructose is probably harmful to a great many people in our populations,” said Dr. George Bray, who researches the metabolic effects of sugary beverages at Louisiana State University’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.
Exposure to fructose has been shown to have detrimental effect on thermogenesis, lipids and metabolites, and blood pressure, said Dr. Bray, pointing to a 1993 study in which volunteers were monitored for metabolic changes following an oral load of glucose or fructose (Am. J. Clin. Nutr. 1993;58:766s- 770s). Fructose stimulated oxygen consumption more than did glucose, but had a smaller effect on insulin stimulation. Fructose also increased respiratory quotient more than did glucose, and there was a suggestion that fructose may increase de novo lipogenesis.
Short-term dietary studies have shown that compared with water or glucose, fructose is associated with weight gain, and increases in blood pressure, plasma inflammatory markers, lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, and visceral fat stores.
In a 10-week parallel-arm Danish study of 41 overweight men and women, one group received 813 kcal/d of sugar-containing beverages and the other received 240 kcal/d of artificially sweetened beverages. Patients on the sucrose-sweetened beverages gained about 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) over the 10 weeks, while those who had aspartame-sweetened drinks lost almost the same amount (Am. J. Clin. Nutr. 2002;76:721) .
Patients in the sucrose group also had a mean 3.8/4.1 mm Hg increase in blood pressure. However, in the aspartame group, systolic BP declined by 3.1 mm Hg, and diastolic pressure declined by 1.2 mm Hg.
Volunteers who drank sugar-sweetened beverages have also been shown to have increases in the inflammatory markers haptoglobin, transferrin, and C-reactive protein, whereas aspartame-sweetened beverage drinkers had large declines in the same markers.
“Right now, sugar-sweetened beverages account for almost 10% of total calories in both child and adult diets in the U.S.,” according to Dr. Frank Hu of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.
‘If you look at a 12-ounce can of soda, it has about 120-150 calories, and has about 10 teaspoons of sugar ... so drinking a can of soda is analogous to doing an oral glucose tolerance test.”
Data from large, decades-long cohort studies, including the Nurses’ Health Study, and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study, show consistent, dose-related associations between sweetened beverage consumption and type 2 diabetes incidence, Dr. Hu said.
In a yet-to-be-published study, looking at prepregnancy consumption of sweetened beverages and the risk of gestational diabetes in more than 13,000 women in the Nurses’ Health Study cohort, soft-drink consumption was associated with about a 25% increase in risk of gestational diabetes during 8 years of follow-up.
Several countries are beginning to take steps to reduce the health effects from such high sugar consumption.
“Mexico will have the highest rate of diabetes in another 10-20 years,” Dr. Popkin said. He noted that the Mexican government has switched from whole milk to 1.5% milk, and will later shift to skim milk, in programs feeding more than 20 million citizens. In addition, Mexico’s schools are working to ban all sugar-sweetened beverages, provide safe drinking water, and allow the sale of water and low-fat milk.
The Mexican government also is considering taxing added sugars in beverages per gram, as well as fat content in milk, and has launched a national media campaign to alert citizens to the dangers of hidden fats and sugars.
Europe, France, and the United Kingdom are banning vending machines in schools, and are forbidding television advertising of sweetened drinks.
Within the U.S., Maine has instituted a soft-drink tax for the purposes of health promotion, and Massachusetts, New York, and other states are considering similar measures. Many states and metropolitan areas are also requiring calorie labeling on beverages sold in fast-food outlets, according to Dr. Popkin.
Dr. Popkin noted that while he applauds those efforts, there are still major steps that need to be taken. Macroeconomic options include removing food subsidies for substances, such as sugar and corn, used to create sweeteners, and the institution of excise or value-added taxes to cover all sugary beverages, he said.Fruits and vegetables for Healthy skin

Heaven's Healing - 4 - OUR NEGLECTED BATH
The body of a new-born infant contains more than 80% water. The amount of water in the tissues lessens with advancing age. More than 60% of our body is made up of water.
Humans have lived 81 days without food‚ but they will die in 5 days without water. If a person loses just 5% of his total water‚ he will start to hallucinate‚ become disoriented‚ and experience twitching muscles. If he loses 15% of his total water‚ his life is endangered. A loss greater than 15% of body fluids may result in death.
Yet‚ the body has no water storage system to depend on in times of need.
The parts of the body that suffer most from dehydration are those without direct vascular circulation‚ such as the joint cartilages in fingers‚ knees‚ and vertebrae. Chronic pains are often indicators of chronic dehydration. When any of your joints begin to signal aching pains that come and go‚ the first thought that should occur to you is “My body is severely short of water.” Often‚ though‚ when the signs of water deficiency in joint cartilages are not recognized for what they indicate‚ painkillers are prescribed‚ frequently resulting in a dependence on addictive medication‚ and possible permanent results could be permanent damage to cartilage separation of the joint bones.
How much water should I drink and how do I know if I am drinking enough water?
Contrary to popular belief‚ thirst is not a good indicator. By the time you are thirsty‚
it means your body has already lost more than 3% of its water. If your urine is bright
yellow‚ you are drinking too little water. Ideally‚ your urine should be as light as
possible‚ almost colorless. Regular intake of water throughout the day is important
because when a huge amount of water is ingested‚ it is practically completely
eliminated by the kidneys in the succeeding few hours.
That is why‚ to meet your daily ration of water intake‚ a lot of water all at once
is not the solution. Drink one to two glasses of water every waking hour or so
throughout the day.
Drink more if you sweat much or the weather is hot. This will help your endurance.
Carry a supply with you. Upon rising‚ drink two glasses at room temperature
with a freshly squeezed lemon in it.
How about daily showers?
A burned victim who has had over 50% of the
skin function destroyed‚ has a lower chance for
survival‚ and his kidneys are placed under a
terrific load because of the loss of eliminative
assistance by the skin. The skin is considered
to play the role of a third kidney. The average
healthy person eliminates about 1 kg of waste
material daily through the pores of the skin!
People who engage in rigorous physical activity
eliminate an even greater amount.
It is important to keep the pores open
and clean by daily bathing.
Persons in health should on no account
neglect daily bathing. More so‚ those who are
not in good health have impurities in the blood.
The multitude of pores‚ or little mouths‚ through which the body breathes‚
become clogged and filled with waste matter‚ and the skin is not in a healthy condition.
The skin needs to be carefully and thoroughly cleansed‚ that the pores may do their
work in freeing the body from impurities. Feeble persons who are diseased surely
need the advantages and blessings of bathing daily.
Whether a person is sick or well‚ respiration is more free and easy if bathing is practiced.
By it‚ the muscles become more flexible‚ the mind and body are alike invigorated‚ the
intellect is made brighter‚ and every faculty becomes livelier. The bath is a soother of the
nerves. It promotes general perspiration‚ quickens the circulation‚ overcomes
obstructions in the system‚ and acts beneficially on the kidneys and urinary organs.
Bathing helps the bowels‚ stomach‚ and liver‚ giving energy and new life to each.
It also promotes digestion‚ and instead of the system being weakened‚
it is strengthened.
Instead of increasing the liability of cold‚ a bath‚ properly taken‚ fortifies against cold‚
because the circulation is improved‚ and the uterine organs‚ which are more or less
congested are relieved‚ for the blood is brought to the surface‚ and an easier and
regular flow of the blood through all the blood vessels is obtained.
Remember to always end your bath or shower with cold water‚ as this
strengthens the body whereas ending with warm or hot water weakens the body.
Should I use hydrotherapy (water treatments) when I am sick?
How effective is it?
The things of nature are God's blessings‚ provided to give health to the body‚ mind‚
and soul. They are given to the healthy to keep them healthy and to the sick to make
them healthy. Natural remedies with water treatment are more effective in restoring
health than all the drug medication in the world.
Take one hot bath a day‚ remain in the bath for 20 minutes; the temperature of the
water should be 110 degrees F‚ followed by a cold shower for 1-3 minutes.
Before each shower or bath‚ dry brush the skin with a stiff brush until the skin is rosy
and warmed. Brush stroking towards the heart region.
Having steam bath at home is excellent. Have a steam bath daily‚ or twice daily
in serious sicknesses‚ until you are recovered. Sit on a small stool‚ covered with a
blanket‚ from the neck to the feet. Place a basin of boiling water between your feet.
Replace the water as it cools‚ with more hot water.
Maintain this position for twenty minutes; end with a cold shower for 1-2 minutes.

Good Moral of the story
There was once a washer man who had a donkey and a dog. One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep too but the donkey and the dog were awake. The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson.
The donkey got worried and said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly.
Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.
Moral of the story "One must not engage in duties other than his own"
Now take a new look at the same story...
The washer man was a well educated man from LUMS institute. He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet.
The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dog's duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed "ME" (Met Expectations)
Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around.
The donkey was rated as "star performer". The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards.
Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a NEW JOB...
Moral of the story… ehmmm, please see above.
Disclaimer: All characters in the story are not at all imaginary.
Any resemblance to person living or dying of work is purely "intentional"

FLU IS NOT THE BIGGEST DANGER ...... IT'S THE VACCINE By David Icke
These are challenging times and we need to stay calm and think things through - not just panic and react. Fear, panic and emotional reaction got us into this mess and it is certainly not going to get us out of it.
We also need to realise - here, now - that we have long crossed the line into a fully-fledged fascist dictatorship. It has hidden itself to most people this far, but it is about to lift the veil.
It is no longer an option to do nothing or passively acquiesce to authority out of fear or apathy. Or, at least, it's not if we care about our freedoms and, most importantly, those of our children and grandchildren who will have to live almost their entire lives under a global jackboot of sheer, undiluted evil.
The word 'evil' is much overused and I don't say it lightly; but we are dealing with evil in the sense that the word is the reverse of 'live'. Those behind the conspiracy to cull the human population and turn the rest into little more than computer terminals are anti-life. They have no respect for it and no empathy with those who suffer the consequences of their actions, no matter how appalling.
I have been warning of what was coming for nearly 20 years and it is not 'coming' any more - it's here. No more excuses from anyone, please. We have to deal with it. We have to draw a line in the sand and say no more.
Never was this more important than with the conspiracy to force swine flu vaccination upon the global population. The swine flu virus was created in a laboratory to generate mass panic with the specific intention of forcing everyone to have the vaccine. Problem-Reaction-Solution. This 'natural' swine flu virus apparently contains genes from humans, birds and pigs from several continents.
If you concoct and release a virus and then implement a clearly long-planned mass vaccination programme, there can be only one sensible conclusion: swine flu is not the biggest danger here - it's the vaccine.
The scale and speed of the planned vaccination programme is insane given that the overwhelming majority of those who have contracted the virus have had very mild symptoms. Dr Peter Holden of the Rothschild-controlled British Medical Association said that although swine flu was not causing serious illness they were eager to start a mass vaccination campaign, beginning with 'priority groups'. Ugh?? This is not about public health and never was.
Those administering the vaccinations have no clue what is in them or their potential effect. They are just repeaters thinking what they are told to think and doing what they are told to do. Only those at the core of the conspiracy, and those who bother to research it, know what the game is.
'Get yer flu shot, get yer flu shot, get yer flu shot ...'
The Austrian journalist, Jane Bürgermeister, has filed criminal charges with the FBI against the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations, Barack Obama, a Rockefeller, a Rothschild, and others, over a plot she uncovered to cull the population with a deadly swine flu vaccine.
She said that bird flu and swine flu have been developed in laboratories and released on the public with the aim of mass murder through vaccination. Her filed document is called Bioterrorism Evidence. She writes here about the United States, but what she says applies everywhere:
'There is evidence that an international corporate criminal syndicate, which has annexed high government office at Federal and State level, is intent on carrying out a mass genocide against the people of the United States by using an artificial (genetic) flu pandemic virus and forced vaccine program to cause mass death and injury and depopulate America in order to transfer control of the United States to the United Nations and affiliated security forces (UN troops from countries such as China, Canada, the UK and Mexico).
There is proof many organisations - World Health Organisation, UN as well as vaccine companies such as Baxter and Novartis - are part of a single system under the control of a core criminal group, who give the strategic leadership, and who have also funded the development, manufacturing and release of artificial viruses in order to justify mass vaccinations with a bioweapon substance in order to eliminate the people of the USA, and so gain control of the assets, resources etc of North America.
The motivation for the crime is classical robbery followed by murder although the scale and method are new in history. The core group sets its strategic goals and operative priorities in secret using committees such as the Trilateral Commission, and in person to person contact in the annual Bilderberg meeting.'
Jane Bürgermeister is a rare real journalist, so much so that she was sacked from her job as European correspondent of the Renewable Energy World website after she filed the charges with the FBI. Renewable Energy? It is their backbone and sense of decency that need renewing, but it shows how controlled everything is.
What Bürgermeister describes in her FBI submission is a ......

Laylatul Qadr
In the name of Allah, the Most-Merciful, the All-Compassionate
"May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You"
Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah
As-Salaam Alaikum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
By Asma bint Shameem
Subhaan Allaah! The beautiful month of Ramadaan is flying by! Its blessed days and fragrant nights are soon about to leave. And it breaks our hearts to let it go.
Yet, O Muslim, Rejoice! For there is good news for you!
A great opportunity is about to dawn upon you......
A once-in -a -lifetime chance !
Its an offer that you cannot pass by!
Allah Subhaanahu wa Taala, in his Infinite Mercy, has bestowed upon you a Great and Noble night.....
Its the Night of Power…. the Night of Divine Decree.
A Night in which angels descend and send salutations to the believers…
A Night of innumerable blessings…..full of PEACE and tranquility….
A Night…… in which, Ibadah is better than a thousand months.
“The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.”
(Surah al-Qadr:3)
A thousand months! Subhaan Allaah!
That is equal to 30,000 nights or 83 years and 4 months!
Could there be a better chance for you than this??!!
Could there be a more Merciful Lord than this??!!
Subhaan Allaah wal Hamdulillaah!
Here is your chance to repent….to come back to the Most Merciful….to change your life for the better.
This is your chance to have ALL your previous sins forgiven!
"Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven" (Bukhaari)
This is a perfect opportunity to earn Allaahs pleasure…..being saved from Hellfire and entering Jannah.
A time when your dua will surely be accepted.
What to do on Laylatul Qadr?
1) Search for this night in the LAST TEN nights of Ramadaan (not just the 27th)
Dont just single out one night for Ibadaat. Make sure to do it ALL TEN NIGHTS or atleast on 21st , 23rd , 25th , 27th ,29th nights , because the EXACT date for Lailatul Qadr is hidden from us.
What if Lailatul Qadr is some other night and not on the 27th ?? Have you ever thought about that? Then you would have no one to blame but yourself if you miss this great Night….this perfect opportunity of goodness and blessings.
“Seek Laylat al-Qadr among the odd numbered nights of the last ten nights of Ramadaan.” (Bukhaari, Muslim)
2) Strive HARD in your search, worshiping Allaah sincerely and diligently
This your chance to earn Jannah. So give it ALL you got…. everything you have.
“The Prophet (pbuh)used to used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadaan as he never did at any other time.” (Muslim, Ahmad)
3) Prepare for it mentally and physically
Take off work, if you can and go for Umrah or make Itikaaf in the Masjid.
Dont overtire yourself during the day, such that you dont have any energy left to worship the Almighty.
Plan out your worship schedule for the night
Take a nap during the day, if possible and remember…do not overeat!
4) Shun worldly pleasures
Dont waste A SINGLE MOMENT of your time, such as spending this precious time in the mall, shopping for Eid or in extravagant ‘Iftaar-cum-fashion show’ parties.
Stay away from anything and everything that might distract you from remembering Allaah (TV, movies, music, unnecessary phone calls, gossip, etc.)
“When the last ten days of Ramadaan began, the Prophet (pbuh) would tighten his waist-wrapper (meaning he would stay away from marital relations), spend his nights in prayer, and wake his family.” (Muslim)
5) Spend these nights in prayer, reciting Quraan, making dua, doing istighfaar.
Stand LONG in Qiyaam….hands folded obediently…your head low, in shame…humbly
Eyes downcast….hearts trembling…tears rolling…..
Tears of regret and sorrow…..tears of repentance and shame
Spread out your hands….like a beggar, begging for his life….
Ask Allaah to forgive you and He will forgive you.
Beg for his Mercy and He will give it to you.
Beseech Him to guide you and save you from the torments of Hell.
Be determined that you will rectify your mistakes and improve your shortcomings
Resolve to be steadfast in your Commitment and be firm in your Deen
Read Quraan, do much Tasbeeh, glorify Allaah, praise Him and thank Him.
Make lots of dua for yourself, your family, your friends and the Muslim Ummah.
6) DONT BE THE ONE WHO SLEEPS and misses out on immeasurable goodness
One who misses this blessed night has indeed missed much goodness, for no one misses it except for the one from whom it is withheld.
“ In it (i e. Ramadaan) is a night better than a thousand months, whoever loses the benefit of it has lost something irreplaceable.” (Ahmad, an-Nasaa’i)
There are many chances to sleep, but a chance like this is rare to come by ….only once a year. And that also if you are lucky to be alive next year.
Are you going to miss a golden chance like this one…..sleeping??
Or are you going to be like the one who maybe just prays a few rakaat and thinks he's done enough and is eager to go back to sleep??
Think about it......Isn'
Havent we been sleeping all this while, anyway?? Havent we “SLEPT” enough, O Muslim??!!
Actually…….ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME WE WOKE UP???!!
Life is about opportunities. They say the wise man is the one who makes the most of his opportunities. Here is an opportunity to buy a piece of Jannah.
A piece of Jannah is up for sale! Are there any buyers??
The Duaa to make on Lailatul Qadr
Note: There is nothing that is narrated in the Quraan or Sunnah regarding Ibaadat such as prayer , duas, etc. that is to be specifically read on Lailatul Qadr EXCEPT just one hadeeth from Aisha (RA) when she asked the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alayhi wa Sallam):
“I said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say on that night?’ He said, ‘Say:
Allaahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibb al-afwa fa affu anni
(O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).”
(Tirmidhi)
All the other duas and formulas for prayers that you see in some books and papers that are to be read a certain number of times or to be read in a specific order, or to be read in Salaah in a specific way, are ALL bidah. There is NO PROOF in the Qur’aan or Sunnah for their validity. Stay away from that.
Remember, Allaah will accept your Ibaadah only and only if it is:
a) done sincerely for Him alone
b) if it is done according to what the Prophet (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) himself did or said or approved of.
Otherwise it will be thrown back on the person who did it, without being accepted, no matter what it is.
He (sal Allaahu Alayhi wa sallam) said: “Every action that is not in accordance with this matter of ours [i.e. Islam] will be rejected.” (Muslim)
May Allaah save us from that. Ameen.
As-Salaam Walekum
Adil Khan

Fasting 50% + Top Ten Excuses for NOT donning Hijab...
Fasting 50%
by Asma bint Shameem
What if you hire someone to do something for you, but they only do part of the job and leave the rest incomplete? Will you recompense them fully for a job completed?
And what do you think a teacher would say if a student turns in only some of his homework and fails to do the rest of it? Will he get full marks for it?
And what about a child who is supposed to clean his whole room, but he only cleans half of it? Do you think he did what was required of him? Would you reward him for a job well done?
The answer to all of the above is an obvious NO.
Thats because they did not complete what they were supposed to do and only did part of it. And thus they do not deserve to be fully rewarded.
Similarly, my dear sister, is the case when you fast but you dont wear hijaab.
Yes, thats right.
Do you realize, dear sister, that by not wearing hijaab, you are only doing part of the job and not doing whole of it?
You see, just as much as fasting is a fard (obligation) on you, in like manner, the hijab is also, just as equally, fard on you.
The One Who made the FAST an obligation on you and me is the same Lord Who also made the HIJAAB an obligation on you and me.
Allaah says: “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. over themselves) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brothers sons, or their sisters sons, or their (Muslim) women, or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigor, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful” [al-Noor 24:31]
And there are so many other ayaat and ahaadeeth that clearly order believing women to cover themselves. Do you not want to be one of them?
Dont you want to obey the One who created you, gave you life, food, health, family, friends and everything that you know and don't know of ??!!
Masha Allaah, you work so hard in Ramadhaan. You wake up for suhoor, you fast all day, you take care of your family. You cook, you clean, you do all your chores. You are tired yet you stand at night for Taraaweeh. May Allaah accept all your good deeds and sincere effort. But, my dear sister, do you realize that by not observing hijab, you only get part of the reward of all your hard work and not 100 percent of it?
The scholars tell us: "If a woman does not wear hijaab, then she is disobeying her Lord thereby, but her fast is still valid, because sins, including not wearing hijaab, do not invalidate the fast, but they detract from its reward, and may cause it to be lost altogether."
(Islam-qa)
Realize, dear sister, that not wearing hijaab is a sin and sins may take away some or all of the reward, and the fasting person may be left with nothing from his fast apart from hunger and thirst.
Rasul Allaah (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: “It may be that the fasting person gets nothing from his fast apart from hunger, and it may be that the one who prays qiyaam at night may get nothing from his qiyaam but a sleepless night.” (Ibn Majah)
And he (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said: “Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, Allaah has no need of his giving up his food and drink.” (Bukhaari)
Imagine! All that hard work.....all that effort you put into fasting, and some or even all of it may be lost!
What a terrible loss indeed! And just because you didn't cover yourself the way your Rabb, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, orders you to.
Do remember, that the purpose of fasting is not just to give up food and drink, but to attain piety. The real aim is to stay away from sins and those deeds that displease Allaah. And to train oneself to obey Allaah and submit to Him.
“O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain piety” [al-Baqarah 2:183]
So submit to Allaah fully. Obey Him in wearing hijaab, just like you obey Him in fasting and praying. Dont let the Shaytaan keep you away from getting full reward for all your hard work in Ramadhaan. Let your fasting motivate you to obey Allaah and keep away from that which He has forbidden.
Use this perfect chance for you to start wearing hijaab....
no, not from tomorrow…..but from today.
“And whosoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger, he has indeed achieved a great achievement (i.e. saved from Hell‑fire and admitted to Jannah)” (al-Ahzaab 33:71)
Top Ten Excuses for NOT donning Hijab...
1. I am not yet convinced of the necessity of the Hijab..
We then ask this sister two questions.
One: Is she truly convinced of the correctness of the religion of Islam? The natural answer is: Yes she is convinced for she responds "Laa ilaaha illallah!" (There is no god but Allah), meaning she is convinced of the aqeedah, and then she says: "Muhammadun rasoolullah!
Two: Is the hijaab then a part of Islamic Law (sharee'ah) and an obligation?
If this sister is honest and sincere in her intention and has looked into the issue as one who truly wants to know the truth her answer could only be: Yes. For Allah ta'aala, Whose deity (Uloohiyyah) she believes in has commanded wearing hijaab in His Book (Al-Qur'aan) and the nobleýprophet ('alaihi salaat wa salaam)whose message she believes in has commanded wearing the hijaab in his sunnah.
What do we call a person who says they believe in and are content with the correctness of Islam but who nonetheless does not do what Allah or His Messenger have ordered? Certainly they can in no way be described as those whom Allah speaks of in this aayah: The only saying of the faithful believers when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them is that they say 'we hear and obey' and such are the successful.
[Soorah An-Noor 24:51]
In summary: If this sister is convinced of Islam, how then can she not be convinced of its orders?
2. I am convinced of the Islamic dress but my mother prevents me from wearing it and if I disobey her I will go to Hell..
The one who has answered this excuse is the most noble of Allah's creation, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) in concise and comprehensive words of wisdom: There is no obedience to the created in the disobedience of Allah.[Ahmed]
The status of parents in Islam, especially the mother, is a high and elevated one. Indeed Allah ta'aala has combined it with the greatest of matters, worshipping Him and His tawheed, in many aayaat.
He stated: Worship Allah and join none with Him and do good to parents.[Soorah An-Nisaa 4:36]
Obedience to parents is not limited except in one aspect, and that is if they order to disobedience of Allah.
Allah says : But if they strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not.
[Soorah Luqmaan 31:15]
The lack of obedience to them in sinfulness does not prevent being good to them and kind treatment of them. Allah said afterward in the same aayah: But behave with them in the world kindly.
In summary: How can you obey your mother and disobey Allah Who created you and your mother?
3. My position does not allow me to substitute my dress for the Islamic dress..
This sister is either one or the other of two types: She is sincere and honest, or she is a slippery liar who desires to make a showy display of her "hijaab" clamoring with colors to be "in line with the times" and expensive.
We will begin with an answer to the honest and sincere sister. Are you unaware my dear sister, that it is not permissible for the Muslim woman to leave her home in any instance unless her clothing meets the conditions of Islamic hijaab (Hijaab shar'ee) and it is a duty of every Muslim woman to know what they are? If you have taken the time and effort to learn so many matters of this world how then can you be neglectful of learning those matters which will save you from the punishment of Allah and His anger after death!!? Does Allah not say: Ask the people of remembrance (i.e. knowledgeable scholars) if you do not know. [Soorah An-Nahl 16:43]. Learn therefore, the requirements of proper hijaab.
If you must go out, then do not do so without the correct hijaab, seeking the pleasure of Allah and the degradation of Shaitaan. That is because the corruption brought about by your going out adorned and "beautified" is far greater than the matter which you deem necessary to go out for.
My dear sister if you are really truthful in your intention and correctly determined you will find a thousands hands of good assisting you and Allah will make the matter easy for you! Is He not the One Who says:And whoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty) and He will provide him from sources he never could imagine[Soorah At-Talaaq 65:2-3]
With regards to the 'slippery' one we say: Honor and position is something determined by Allah ta'aala and it is not due to embellishment of clothing and show of colors and keeping up with the trendsetters. It is rather due to obedience to Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and holding to the pure law of Allah and correct Islamic hijaab. Listen to the words of Allah: Indeed, the most honorable amongst you are those who are the most pious. [Soorah Al-Hujuraat 49:35]
In summary: Do things in the way of seeking Allah's pleasure and entering His Jannah and give less value to the high priced and costly objects and wealth of this world.
4. It is so hot in my country and I can't stand it. How will it be if I wore Hijab..
Allah gives an example by saying: Say: The Fire of Hell is more intense in heat if they only understand. [Soorah At-Taubah 9:81]
How can you compare the heat of your land to the heat of the Hellfire?
Know, my sister, that Shaitaan has trapped you in one of his feeble ropes to drag you from the heat of this world to the heat of the Hellfire. Free yourself from his net and view the heat of the sun as a favor and not an affliction especially in that it reminds you of the intensity of the punishment of Allah which is many times greater than the heat you now feel. Return to the order of Allah and sacrifice this worldly comfort in the way of following the path of salvation from the Hellfire about which Allah says: They will neither feel coolness nor have any drink except that of boiling water and the discharge of dirty wounds.[Soorah An-Naba' 78:24-25]
In summary: The Jannah is surrounded by hardships and toil, while Hellfire is surrounded by temptations, lusts and desires.
5. I'm afraid that if I wear the Hijab,I will put it off at a later time because I have seen so many others do so..
To her I say: If everyone was to apply your logic then they would have left the Deen in its entirety! They would have left off salaat because some would be afraid of leaving it later. They would have left fasting in Ramadhan because so many are afraid of not doing it later. etc. Haven't you seen how Shaitaan has trapped you in his snare again and blocked you from guidance?
Allah taaala loves continuous obedience even if it be small or recommended. How about something that is an absolute obligation like wearing hijaab?! The prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said: The most beloved deed with Allah is the consistent one though it be little. Why haven't you sought out the causes leading those people to leave off the hijaab so that you can avoid them and work to keep away from them? Why haven't you sought out reasons and causes to affirm truth and guidance until you can hold firm to them?
Among these causes is much supplication to Allah (du'aa) to make the heart firm upon the Deen as did the prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam). Also is making salaat and having mindfulness of it as Allah stated:And seek helpin patience and the prayer and truly it is extremely heavy except for the true believers in Allah who obey Allah with full submission and believe in His promise of Jannah and in His warnings (Al-Khaashi'
Allah says: If they had done what they were told, it would have been better for them and would have strengthened their faith. [Soorah Al-Baqarah 2:66]
In summary: If you hold tight to the causes of guidance and taste the sweetness of faith you will not neglect the orders of Allah after having held to them.
6. If I wear the Hijab, then no one will marry me.
So,I'm going to put it off till then..
Any husband, who desires that you be uncovered and adorned in public in defiance of and in disobedience to Allah, is not a worthy husband in the first place. He is a husband who has no feeling to protect what Allah has made inviolable, most notably yourself, and he will not help you in any way to enter Al-Jannah or escape from the Hellfire. A home which is founded upon disobedience to Allah and provocation of His anger is fitting that He decree misery and hardship for it in this life and in the Hereafter.
As Allah stated: But whosoever turns away from My reminder (i.e. neither believes in the Qur'aan nor acts upon its teachings) verily for him is a life of hardship and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection.
[Soorah Ta Ha 20:124]
Marriage is a favor and blessing from Allah to whom He give whom He wills. How many women who wear hijaab (mutahajibah) are in fact married while many who don't aren't? If you were to say that '..my being made-up and uncovered is a means to reach a pure end, namely marriage', a pure goal or end is not attained through impure and corrupt means in Islam. If the goal is honorable then it must necessarily be achieved by pure and clean method. We say the rule in Islam is: The means are according to the rules of the intended goals.
In summary: There is no blessing in a marriage established upon sinfulness and corruption.
7. I dont wear hijaab based on what Allah says:
And proclaim the grace of your Rabb [Soorah Ad-Dhuhaa 93:11]
How can I cover what Allah has blessed me with of silky soft hair and captivating beauty?
So.this sister of ours adheres to the Book of Allah and its commands as long as they coincide with her personal desires and understanding! She leaves behind those matters when they don't please her. If this was not the case, then why doesn't she follow the aayah:And do not show off their adornment except only that which is apparent
[Soorah An-Noor 24:31]
And the statement of Allah subhaanah:Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies
[Soorah Al-Ahzaab 33:59]
With this statement my sister you have now made a shari'ah (law) for yourself of what Allah ta'aala has strictly forbidden, namely beautification (at-tabarruj) and uncovering (as-sufoor), and the reason: Your lack of wanting to adhere to the order. The greatest blessing or favor that Allah has bestowed upon us is that of Eemaan (faith) and hidaayah (guidance) and among them is the Islamic hijaab. Why then do you not manifest and talk about this greatest of blessings given to you?
In summary: Is there a greater blessing and favor upon the woman than guidance and hijaab?
8. I know that hijaab is obligatory (waajib),
but I will wear it when Allah guides me to do so..
We ask this sister on what plans or steps she will undertake until she accepts this divine guidance? We know that Allah has in His wisdom made a cause or means for everything. That is why the sick take medicine to regain health, and the traveler rides a vehicle or an animal to reach his destination, and other limitless examples.
Has this sister of ours seriously endeavored to seek true guidance and exerted the proper means to get it such as: Supplicating Allah sincerely as He stated: Guide us to the Straight Path. [Soorah Al-Faatihah 1:6];
Keeping company with the righteous good sisters - for they are among the best to assist her to guidance and to continue to point her to it until Allah guides her and increases her guidance and inspires her to further guidance and taqwaa. She would then adhere to the orders of Allah and wear the hijaab that the believing women are commanded to wear.
In summary: If this sister was really serious about seeking guidance she would have exerted herself by the proper means to get it.
9. Its not time for that yet. I'm still too young for wearing hijaab.
I'll do it when I get older and after I make Hajj!
The Angel of Death my sister, is visiting and waiting at your door for the order of Allah ta'aala to open it on you at any moment in your life. Allah said: When their term comes, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it and hour (or a moment). [Soorah Al-An'aam 7:34].
Death my sister doesn't discriminate between the young or the old and it may come while you are in this state of great sinfulness disobedience, fighting against the Lord of Honor with your uncovering and shameless adornment. My sister, you should race to obedience along with those others who race to answer the call of Allah tabaaraka wa ta'aala:Race with one another in hastening towards forgiveness from your Lord and Paradise the width whereof is as the width of the heavens and the earth. [Soorah Al-Hadeed 57:21]
Sister, don't forget Allah or He will forget you by turning His mercy away from you in this life and the next. You are forgetting your own soul by not fulfilling the right of your soul to obey Allah and proper worship of Him. Allah stated about the hypocrites (Al-Munaafiqoon)
My sister wear the hijaab in your young age in opposition to the sinful deed because Allah is intense in punishment and will ask you on the Day of Resurrection about your youth and every moment of your life.
In summary: Stop presuming some future expectation in your life will indeed occur!! How can you guarantee your own life until tomorrow?
10. I am afraid that if I wear Islamic clothing that I'll be labeled as belonging to some group or another and I hate partisanship.
My sisters in Islam, there are only two parties in Islam, and they are both mentioned by Allah Almighty in His Noble Book. The first party is the party of Allah (hizbullah) that He gives victory to because of their obedience to His commands and staying away from what He has forbidden. The second party is the party of the accursed Shaitaan (hizbush-Shaitaan) which disobeys the Most Merciful and increase corruption in the earth. When you hold tight to and adhere to the commands of Allah, and among them is wearing the hijaab - you then become a part of the successful party of Allah. When you beautify and display your charms you are riding in the boat of Shaitaan and his friends and partners from among the hypocrites and the disbelievers and none worse could there be as friends.
Don't you see how you are running from Allah and to the Shaitaan, trading filth for good? Run instead my sister to Allah and follow His way: So flee to Allah (from His Torment to His mercy). Verily I (Muhammad) am a plain Warner to you from Him.[Soorah Adh-Dhaariyaat 51:50]
The hijaab is a high form of worship that is not subject to the opinions of people and their orientations and choices because the one who legislated it is the Most Wise Creator.
In summary: In the way of seeking the pleasure of Allah and in hope of His Mercy and success in His Jannah and throw the statements of the devils among people and jinn against the wall! Hold tight to the legislation of Allah by your molars and follow the example of the striving and knowledgeable Mothers of the Believers and the female companions (radiallahu 'anhum ajma'een).
Conclusion
Your body is on display in the market of Shaitaan seducing the hearts of men. The hairstyles, the tight clothing showing every detail of your figure, the short dresses showing off your legs and feet, the showy, decorative and fragrant clothing all angers the Merciful and pleases the Shaitaan. Every day that passes while you are in this condition, distances you further from Allah and brings you closer to Shaitaan. Each day curses and anger are directed toward you from the heavens until you repent. Every day brings you closer to the grave and the Angel of Death is ready to capture your soul.
Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Hellfire and admitted to Al-Jannah, is indeed successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (a deceiving thing).[Soorah Aale 'Imraan 3:185]
Get on the train of repentance my sister, before it passes by your station. Deeply consider my sister, what is happening today before tomorrow comes.
Think about it, my sister - Now, before it is too late !
