Five Tip Friday – BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1 Phone Tips

Post Type :

Here are five must know tips when it comes to using the phone on your BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

One touch voicemail access

Whenever I set up a BlackBerry 10 device, or a friend asks for a quick tip, I always recommend this! Simply put, this tip really makes checking your voicemail easy because all you need to do is tap the Voice Mail icon or notification and you can hear the message without manually entering your password.

  1. On the home screen, tap the phone icon
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen
  3. Tap FTF-1021-Phone-Settings Settings followed by Voice Mail
  4. Complete one of the following:
    • To set a password for the first time, tap Set Password
    • To update an existing password, tap Change Password
  5. When finished, tap Back to save your changes

After you complete these steps, tap the Voice Mail icon within the Phone app and your smartphone automatically enters your password – brilliant!

Customize your Reply Now messages

You will never again have to excuse yourself from a meeting or conversation to answer the phone. With the Reply Now feature, you can send a caller a brief message instead of answering an incoming call.

By default, if the caller is a BBM contact, the Reply Now message is sent as a BBM message. If the caller isn’t a BBM contact, the Reply Now message is sent as a text message. You can select one of three default Reply Now messages to send to a caller instead of answering an incoming call.

To customize the default Reply Now messages complete the following steps.

  1. In the Phone app, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap FTF-1021-Phone-Settings Settings followed by Reply Now
  3. Tap the message you want to change
  4. Type a new message
  5. When finished, tap Back to save your changes

Block calls

Did you know that you can block all incoming or outgoing calls, even when roaming? Here’s how to do it!

  1. In the Phone app, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings followed by Call Blocking
  3. Set any of the switches to On

The first time you turn on Call Blocking, you’ll be prompted to create a password to lock your Call Blocking settings. To change your Call Blocking password, complete steps 1 and 2, and then tap FTF-1021-Phone-Change Change Password.

Note: Contact your wireless service provider for more info on blocking specific phone numbers. Depending on your wireless service provider, this feature might not be supported.

Clear your call log

Recently a friend of mine asked me how she could clear her call log because she didn’t want her significant other to see calls she’d made to a travel agency. Long story short, she was going to surprise her loved one with a trip and didn’t want him to find out because he occasionally uses her device.

So how did we clear the call log? Easy, just open the Phone app, swipe down from the top and tap the Clear Call Log button.

Get notified of phone calls when using Bedside Mode

By default you do not get notified of new messages or incoming calls when Bedside Mode is turned on. To make sure you get notified of a call complete the following steps to hear incoming calls when using Bedside Mode :)

  1. In the Clock app, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Set the Phone Calls in Bedside Mode switch to On
