How to share content quickly using Wi-Fi Direct

Post Type :
The next time you need to share a file with someone who shares your physical location, consider using Wi-Fi Direct. Available in BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2 and later, Wi-Fi Direct provides the ability to share files without using access points, or a router, so you can share files without an Internet connection.
Wi-Fi Direct is incredibly fast which makes it my preferred method of sharing multiple pictures or lengthy videos.

To share content using Wi-Fi direct the following settings must be enabled:

  1. On the recipient’s device, turn on Wi-Fi Direct
  2. On the sending device, share content using Wi-Fi Direct
Step 1 – On the recipients device, turn on Wi-Fi Direct
To send content to another device the receiving device needs to have Wi-Fi Direct enabled. A key thing to remember is that Wi-Fi Direct must be enabled each time you plan on receiving content using Wi-Fi Direct.
For those using a BlackBerry 10 device, to turn on Wi-Fi Direct to receive content from another device, complete the following steps:
  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings followed by Networks and Connections
  3. Tap Wi-Fi and, if it’s turned off, turn it on
  4. Tap Wi-Fi Direct
Tip: Using an Android device? Check your user guide as your device may support Wi-Fi Direct too!
Step 2 – On the sending device, share content using Wi-Fi Direct
Provided the person you are sharing content with has enabled Wi-Fi Direct on their device, all that’s left to do is share content with them. To do this, tap and hold the file you would like to share, tap Share, then Wi-Fi Direct.
After doing this a listing of devices with Wi-Fi Direct enabled will appear. Tap on the device you’d like to share the video with and they’ll be prompted to accept the file transfer on their device.

When your file has finished transferring, all that’s left to do is back out of the Wi-Fi Direct screen on the receiving device and you are done! :)
