Ayat

And if you should count the favors of Allah , you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. [Surat An-Nahl 16:18]

Ayat

O you who have believed, when the Adhan is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew. (Surah Jumu'ah, 62:9)

Hadith

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam صلى الله عليه و سلم said: Keep yourselves away from strange women. One companion asked: "O Rasul of Allah, tell me, can the husband's brother mix freely with his sister-in-law." Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied : "He is like death for a woman." Those who spend their wealth [in Allah 's way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. (Surah Baqarah 2:274)

Hadith

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The most enviable of my friends is a believer with little property who finds pleasure in prayer, who performs the worship of his Lord well, who obeys Him in secret, who is obscure among men, who is not pointed out by people, and whose provision is a bare sufficiency with which he is content." Keeping your calendar in sync using the Google Sync app

clip_image001

Since the Google Sync app was released for BlackBerry I have always been a big fan. I have been a long time Google Calendar user, so being able to keep my device calendar in sync with Google has been a big plus. When you want to go a bit further you can even use the Google Sync app to sync more than one calendar to your device as I do with my wife. One you setup your calendars in Google, you simply check a few options in the app and then never have to think about it again. Granted RIM also introduced calendar sync through BIS which is great, but if you need to sync more than one calendar to your device it isn't much help.

The alternative to Google Sync is BBM Groups. This is great for some as it allows you not only to create a calendar that stays in sync, but also share a task list and photos with ease. This is a great solution for those looking for more functionality, however when you need just the calendar, Google Sync is my method of choice. Keep reading as we look into how to get the job done.

Hadith

“Rabbi Zidni Ilma - My Lord! Increase me in knowledge”

Mu'adh bin Jabal (RadiAllahu anhu) reported:

I asked the Allah's Messenger (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam): "Inform me of an act which will cause me to enter Jannah and keep me far from Hell." He (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “You have asked me about a matter of great importance, but it is easy for one for whom Allah makes it easy."

He (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) added, "Worship Allah, associate nothing with Him in worship, offer As-Salat, pay the Zakat, observe Saum during Ramadan and perform Hajj to the House of Allah, if you can afford it."

He (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) further said, "Shall I not guide you to the gates of goodness? Fasting is a screen (from Hell), charity extinguishes (i.e. removes) the sins as water extinguishes fire, and standing in prayers by a slave of Allah during the last third part of the night."

Then he (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) recited:

"Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Rabb in fear and hope,

and they spend (in charity in Allah's Cause) out of which We have bestowed on them.

No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do."

(Holy Qur’an 32:17,18)

Then he (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) added, "Shall I tell you of the root of the matter, its pillars and its highest point?"

I replied: “Yes! Certainly, O Prophet of Allah."

He (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) said, “The root of this matter is Islam, its pillar (mainstay is) As-Salat and its highest point is Jihad (fighting in the Cause of Allah)."

Then he (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) asked, “Shall I tell you of that which holds all these things?"

I said: "Yes, O Allah's Messenger."

So he (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) took  hold of his tongue and said, "Keep this in control."

I asked,"O Allah's Messenger! Shall we really be accountable for what we talk about?"

He (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) replied, “May your mother lose you! people will be thrown on their faces into the Hell on account of their tongues."

[At-Tirmidhi - Hasan Sahih]

As Taken from Riyad-us-Saliheen

Hadith:

Abu Umamah (Radi Allahu anhu) reported:

Allah's Messenger (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) said, “Allah decrees the (Hell) Fire and de-bars Jannah for the one who usurps the rights of a believer by taking a false oath."

One man asked,”O Allah's Messenger! Even if it should be for an insignificant thing?"

He (peace be upon him) said, “Even if it be a stick of the Arak tree (i.e. the tree from which Miswak sticks are taken.)"

[Muslim]

As Taken from Riyad-us-Saliheen

From: Amer Aleem

Hadith

Narrated Ibn 'Umar (May Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala be pleased with him)
The Prophet (May Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala be on him) said, "Amongst the trees, there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim. Tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas. And I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy to answer the others then asked, "What is that tree, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "It is the date-palm tree."

Hadith

Narrated Abu Huraira (May Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala be pleased with him)
Allah's Apostle (May Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala be on him) said, 'Beware of suspicion, for it is the worst of false tales and don't look for the other's faults and don't spy and don't hate each other, and don't desert (cut your relations with) one another O Allah's slaves, be brothers!
Sahih Bukhari:Volume 8, Book 80, Number 717

From: Amer Aleem

Hadith

Narrated Abu Huraira (May Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala be pleased with him)
The Prophet (May Peace, blessings and mercy of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala be on him) said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya (This term "Haya" covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are self respect, modesty, bashfulness, and scruple, etc.) is a part of faith."
Sahih Bukhari:Volume 1, Book 2, Number 8

From: Amer Aleem

Hadith

Narrated Safwan bin Salim (Radi-Allahu 'anhu): The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said

"The one who looks after and works for a widow
and for a poor person, is like a warrior fighting for
Allah's Cause or like a person who fasts during the day
and prays all the night."
Narrated Abu Huraira that the Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said as above.

Powering down your BlackBerry - Turn Off vs. Full Power Off

clip_image002

BlackBerry devices have a lot of options and settings to be configured to each users liking, but sometimes these settings can be very cumbersome. You're not sure which is the correct option to choose let alone how the device will function after making a change. Recently I have been seeing a lot of questions pop up in the forums from users asking "Should I turn my device off using the Turn Off selection or Full Power Off?" Hopefully we can quickly clear up the differences between the two. Here is the official RIM response:

The BlackBerry has two power-management modes:

  • If you use the Power button, and select Turn Off, your BlackBerry will turn itself on again when the alarm activates it or when it is set to turn on automatically.
  • If you use the Power button, then select Full Power Off, your BlackBerry will not turn on again until you press the Power button. All alarms, notifications will not activate. (You will never see this option if you have alarm set to off or device auto on/off disabled)

So if you choose Turn Full Power Off and set an alarm to get to work in the morning, keep in mind it will not wake you up!

Now of course many of us would ask why the device even has a power button (since we never turn them off),  but for those who may want to use this power function, the option is there for you to choose.

JVM Error 102 on your BlackBerry? Try this solution BEFORE wiping!

clip_image001

So as I was getting ready to hit the sack last night, I decided to give my 9930 a battery pull. It had been a bit sluggish for the last hour and I figured it couldn't hurt right? I was wrong. I set my BlackBerry down while it rebooted and went to turn off the hall light. When I came back, my beloved BlackBerry was showing me the white screen of death. I hadn't installed or deleted any apps in the last day so I was completely at a loss as to what had happened. I broke out into a cold sweat, my entire life is on that thing! Of course I hadn't backed up my device in over 2 weeks (this would've never happened if I regularly backed it up I'm sure). It was almost midnight and I had pretty much resigned myself to a long night of reinstalling when I recalled seeing something on the net about not having to wipe your device when given error 102. I trotted downstairs to my laptop and whipped out my trusty USB cable. Within half an hour, my 9930 was back up and running, no wipe or reinstall needed. Keep reading to find out how.

IMO beta instant messaging client updated - Now offers image previews, location sharing and more

clip_image001

We've mentioned the imo multi network messaging client in the past, back when they first launched in beta and now they've rolled out the latest version that adds some great features to the mix. The latest additions to the app:

  • Location Sharing: Let your friends know where you are quickly by sharing your location
  • Image Preview:  Preview pictures you send and receive using imo
  • Chat History: Option to save and view your chat history in the app

Managing a lot of instant messaging clients on BlackBerry has never been really easy, while RIM offers native clients for it having an all-in-one solution is a better way to go. Having an all-in-one solution that is free, makes it even better.

BlackBerry Quick Tip: What's this icon mean?

clip_image002

When you become a BlackBerry owner, it's like you learn a whole new language. Not only is there new terminology to learn, but your screen will soon be home to all kinds of icons and notifications. Most of them are pretty self-explanatory, but others aren't so obvious to new users, and sometimes getting rid of notifications can be just as confusing.

The picture above has been floating around the forums for quite some time, and those of you running older OS' are likely familiar with several of them. For the most part, notifiers haven't changed a whole lot from OS to OS, though there have been some notable changes. After the break you can see a list of more recent notifiers, from OS 5-7, as well as a list of several things that can have an effect on how notifiers look on your device.

eBuddy XMS now available for BlackBerry and hoping to win you over

clip_image001

We know what you are thinking -- cross platform messaging clients are like a dime a dozen now a days, and with so many options, what makes this one any better? With clients like Kik, LiveProfile and WhatsApp available already, the folks at eBuddy XMS knew they had to step it up a level beyond the others and they feel they have done so very well. Features of eBuddy XMS include:

  • eBuddy is a pioneer in the mobile messaging landscape, with its instant messaging apps having seen more than 100 million unique downloads to date
  • eBuddy has the experience and know how to deliver a reliable messaging service, exemplified by the more than 17 billion messages it processes every month
  • Since its launch (late May), eBuddy XMS has seen a great reception, currently being in the top 20 in 27 countries (social networking category - iOS)
  • eBuddy has also developed Web XMS, an exclusive web-based companion app that allows you to manage all your XMS messages through the comfort of your computer.

Knowing that not everyone can be tied to their mobile device at all times, or folks at the computer don't always want to pick up their device to respond to a message, having a web-based companion is a huge help that definitely sets it apart. Unfortunately eBuddy XMS is not available through AppWorld, but it is available through their site for download. More images after the break.

Quick Tip: How to change number of icon rows on BlackBerry 7 devices

[ youtube video link for mobile viewing ]

One of my favorite features of BlackBerry 6 and BlackBerry 7 is the ability to change the number of rows of icons that appear on the home screen without needing to install a custom theme like previously required. In BlackBerry 6 you needed to go to the options menu from the home screen to set the number of rows, but on BlackBerry 7 the setting is no longer there.

With the implimentation of the touch screen on the devices RIM now allows users to simply drag the bar to the position they enjoy, whether no icons, one row or two rows, and let go and the setting saves. Take a look at the video above for a demonstration, and then be sure to set your let us know which you prefer!

BlackBerry Master Control Program comes out of beta, launches as v1.0

clip_image001

It's been quite some time since we last saw BlackBerry Master Control Program updated and back then, it was sitting at v0.9.3.0 beta. Now, a new release has been made available for all those who like to really customize their OS right down to what apps get installed when running BlackBerry App Loader and its lost the beta tag. v1.0 brings some changes that will maintain compatability with older devices but offer some help to those making use of BlackBerry 7 devices as well:

BlackBerry 7 devices aren't fully supported in this release, meaning they don't show up in any of the drop down menus or anything like that but thanks to the new Javaloader version being used you can take screenshots, load apps, install and remove cods and more. All previous devices retain support as well, so if you need to customize your OS more then conventional methods allow, you can do so. You can grab either the portable or standard versions right now.

Team Up and Grow!
by Anum Shaheen
Another day, another weekly review. I’m sitting in the conference room, the first one to arrive (how typical, can’t everyone be on time for once?). As the minutes drag by, the rest of the ‘team’ files in. Finally, we’re seated, and now wait for the Big B to walk in and take grace us with his presence.
The boss arrives, the meeting begins.
Numbers, trends, pitfalls, lapses…business as usual. Doesn’t anyone remember that great thank you letter I received from a key customer last week? Or that I successfully completed my training hours for the month? Or even…it was my birthday yesterday?! Tick tock, tick tock, now the meeting’s over, and everyone will return to their cubicles with their staplers and the rat race for who gets to leave by 6 will begin. Ugh! Why am I here?!’

Depressing isn’t it? And unfortunate, considering that this defines the typical work place, and attitude of most employees! And to this end, the one ...read more

Leaked OS 5.0.0.1079 for BlackBerry Bold 9000

clip_image001

There are honestly quite a few times each week that I pull out my BlackBerry Bold 9000 and wish there was an OS 6 I could load up. I still love that device and would keep rocking it if the OS was up to date. While this is pretty much a pipe dream, there are many users that are still faithful to the 9000. For them we have leaked OS 5.0.0.1079 for the Bold 9000 today. No reports in on this one yet, so if you install be sure to drop a comment letting us know how it goes.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *
