BlackBerry App World 101: Content Ratings

clip_image002

Some useful information you should know if you use the BlackBerry App World™ storefront is how to enable and customize content rating options. This allows you to filter what content you see in BlackBerry App World based on four ratings: Adult, Mature, Teen, and General. To learn more about content ratings, check out the blog post New BlackBerry App World content ratings improve discovery and safety published by my colleague Alex in the Inside BlackBerry Developer Blog.

After enabling content rating settings on your smartphone or tablet, you will have the option of locking the setting as well using a four-digit password. A very important thing to consider is if you forget this password, the only way to reset it is by performing a security wipe of your smartphone or tablet.

With that being said, here’s an overview of how to enable and customize content rating settings when using a BlackBerry® smartphone or a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet:

BlackBerry smartphone

1. Open BlackBerry App World
2. Select “My Account” followed by “Content Controls”
3. Specify which type of content you would like to see:

  • Adult (18+) – Show all items
  • Mature (17+) – Show general, teen and mature items
  • Teen (13+) – Show general and teen items
  • General – Show items suitable for all ages

4. Optionally select “Lock Settings” and enter a four-digit password

  • If enabled, to disable the lock, select “Lock Settings” and enter the four-digit password
  • As mentioned earlier, this password cannot be reset so ensure you remember it!

5. Hit the Escape key when finished to save your changes.
