Last Windows from Microsoft - Windows 10

Yes, Windows 10 is indeed the last version of Windows from Microsoft. This means that the long history of various versions of Windows starting from Windows 1 to Win 3.1 (my 1st Windows, before that I was using Ms DOS) to Windows 95 to Windows XP to Windows 7 ends at Windows 10. There will be no Windows 11.

An event 'IT Days 2015' was held in STC HQ, Riyadh on 7th and 8th of September 2015, there I was able to talk to Microsoft's regional representatives about Windows 10 and they confirmed the news in detail.

This does not mean Microsoft will stop working on Windows OS but due to the rise of other OS on smart devices in the last decade, Microsoft is forced to change its model and now instead of a product, Windows will be available as a service and Microsoft will keep on upgrading this windows through regular updates (pretty much the model followed by Google Chrome and then Mozilla Firefox since Firefox 4). Also it is expected that Microsoft will not charge any money for these upgrades but let's wait and see.

If you already have an older version of Windows, Microsoft is offering you a free upgrade to Windows 10. Historically, it use to take some time for the new version of Windows to get stable and compatible with everything available in the market but Windows 10 is different. 1stly it was released 9 months ago internally to 2,000 employees of Microsoft for testing and all found bugs were fixed, then its preview versions were available to public for testing as well but most importantly there won't be a next version of Windows so whether you like Windows 10 or not you will have to upgrade, as Microsoft will stop supporting older version of Windows in coming time. This means whatever is not working on Windows 10 will consequently phase out thus it's better to find alternatives to that.

I installed and tested Windows 10 on a spare laptop, the 1st impression is pretty good, its fast, its user friendly (unlike Windows 8), the voice recognition capability of Cortana is very impression and it has many new useful features. It also transforms seamlessly between keyboard and touch screen devices. My colleague (Syed Adil) is using Windows 10 on his work laptop for more than a week and is very happy and satisfied with its performance. He has not faced any compatibility issues as well.

As per Microsoft representatives, they have not come across any feedback depicting issues in Windows 10, they have found a few apps which are not yet compatible with Windows 10 but all major apps are working without any issues. They also recommended that if we are using a critical app and we are not sure if it's going to work on Windows 10 then we should contact the developers of that app to confirm its compatibility on Windows 10.

As we all have to do it sooner or later thus I would recommend upgrading to Windows 10 at your earliest and let's take advantage of the new features.
