How to Keep Spying Eyes at Bay With the BlackBerry Privacy Shade App

It’s not just annoying when people are looking over your shoulder when you’re using your phone – it’s also a security risk. You never know if the person next to you is trying to catch you entering your password into one of your accounts or take a look at your private messages.
Along with this month’s app upgrades to the BlackBerry Hub+ Suite, we’ve also introduced a new app called Privacy Shade. With the app – available for any BlackBerry powered by Android running Android 5.0 or higher  – you can block parts of your display so that other people can’t see it, allowing you to read your personal content at any time without worrying about people spying on you.
Here’s how to use Privacy Shade to view your phone in peace.

App Features

When the app is enabled, you have a few options to help you control what can be viewed on the display.

View Sizeimage

To give you better control over what can be seen on your display, the Privacy Shade app lets you look at your screen in two ways: rectangle view or circle view. By tapping the View Area icon, you can switch between the two, depending on which makes it easier to see whatever you’re looking at.
I find the rectangle view image really useful to view my messages, emails, and any other text document. The circle view image is great for navigating through your device because you can easily drag the circle over the display to select the apps you want to open.

Transparency

You also have the power to control how dark or light the blocked display is with the Transparency setting nqt1488549011324_lowres_en-us.png. Oftentimes when I have the blocked display very opaque, I find it difficult to access other apps. By increasing the transparency, I can obscure certain parts of the display, but still find what I need on the screen.
Bonus Tip!: If you increase the transparency to 100%, the app can also double as a brightness filter to take the strain off your eyes at night.

View Area  image

Oftentimes when I set my phone down on a table, I leave the screen facing up so I can easily see my notifications, which unfortunately makes it easy for other people to look at them too. With the View Area options (ezt1488548848764_lowres_en-us.png and The turn on touch-to-view icon), you can switch from blocking only a portion of your screen to blocking the entire screen to make it hard for those snoopers to see what’s on your device.

Quick Access

Privacy Shade can be accessed easily in any of four ways:
  • BlackBerry Privacy Shade can be assigned a Swipe Shortcut if you own a BlackBerry Android device (PRIV, DTEK 50/60)
  • If you own a BlackBerry DTEK 50/60, you can assign BlackBerry Privacy Shade to your Convenience Key
  • BlackBerry Privacy Shade can also be enabled through an optional dedicated notification in the notification tray on any Android device.
To get the app, search search BlackBerry Privacy Shade on the Google Play Store, or get it here.

I love seeing new productivity and security apps from BlackBerry. One such app is the recently released BlackBerry Privacy Shade app. This Android app is simple in concept yet extremely practical in use.

I love seeing new productivity and security apps from BlackBerry. As BlackBerry takes on a pivot to software and services, it's sometimes hard to connect the dots as to what that means for general consumers. If you look closely, however, you'll see ample signs of the quiet innovations in software that users like you and I will get to enjoy.

Update(5-4-2017): 60.29 GBP were sent for this cause, jazakAllah khair for your contributions.

The Shoebox4Syria project was setup in 2014 by a group of individuals from London, UK aiming to send shoeboxes full of toys and gifts to the children of Syria in time for Eid Al Fitr.

The idea was simple, find a shoebox, fill it up with toys and gifts and label it with what age group it’s for. Collection points were set up all over UK.

The response was amazing and gifts were received globally. They successfully distributed:

  • 11,000 Shoeboxes at Eid 2014
  • 22,000 Shoeboxes at Eid 2015
  • 30,656 Shoeboxes at Eid 2016

Now they are collecting gifts and donations for Eid Al Fitr 2017. There are 3 ways to contribute:

1. If you want to contribute in the form of gifts then a detailed step by step guide is given on their website at Shoebox4Syria.com but it seems we are already late for that.

2. You can donate money for logistics of this project: This campaign is run by volunteers and is supported 100% by Donations. All the volunteers that work on the project do not take any wages for their time. All the money raised goes to supporting the costs of the campaign which includes Container transport, Storage and packaging materials. Donations can be made at this link: Shoebox4Syria at givebrite

3. Since last year, We Care Foundation is preparing shoeboxes on behalf of anyway who cannot prepare shoeboxes themselves. We Care Foundation charge 5 GBP for preparing and giving 1 box to Shoebox4Syria project. My class fellow in UK has worked with them in the past. Donations can be made at this link: Smile for a child for We Care Foundation on MyDonateThe deadline is 10th May 2017.

If you are a UK taxpayer then you can donate using an option called "Gift Aid", in this way for every 5 GBP, government also contributes 1.25 GBP.

Thus I am planning to send donations to my class fellow in UK by 5th May and from there the donations will be sent to above options to avail "Gift Aid" option.

If you would like to donate via my class fellow before 5th May 2017 then donations can be made through any of the following channels:
  • In cash to me
  • In a KSA Bank Account
  • In a Pakistani Bank Account
  • Via PayPal

Plz let me know which option suits you and I will share the details accordingly. Plz also let me know if you would like to donate for option 2 or 3,  jazakAllah khair.
