Five Tip Friday – BlackBerry 10 Calendar

BB10-CalA

Here are several BlackBerry 10 calendar tips to increase your productivity and organization.

Change your calendar display options

Personalize your calendar by customizing the following settings that affect the default calendar view, the first day of the week and more. Make sure you try out my favorite feature, Growing Numbers, if you don’t have the option enabled already. After turning on this option, you can easily tell which days you are busiest in the month view by looking at the size of the date. For example, in the following screenshot from my personal calendar, I can tell right away that a majority of my events take place on Wednesdays.

Follow these steps to customize your calendar display options:

  1. In the Calendar app, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings, followed by General
    • To change the default view when you open the calendar, select your desired view from the Default Calendar View drop-down list
    • To change the day that the week starts on, select your preferred option in the First Day of the Week drop-down list
    • To change your working hours, set the Start and End values in the Working Hours section
    • To use growing numbers to indicate how busy a day is, set the Growing Numbers switch to On

Customize your calendar colors

When you add a calendar to your device, it is assigned a unique color to differentiate it from your various calendars. If you don’t like the color that is assigned to the calendar, choose a different color using the following steps.

  1. In the Calendar app, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings, followed by Calendar Colors
  3. Tap a calendar and specify your desired color

Check your upcoming events in the BlackBerry Hub

On top of checking your agenda in the Calendar app, you also have the ability to view upcoming events in the BlackBerry Hub. To do this in the BlackBerry Hub, go to the top of the message list where today’s date appears and slowly drag down using one finger to see your upcoming events.

Specify your default calendar and what email address to use with each calendar

To change the default calendar that you add events to and send meeting invitations from, complete the following steps:

  1. On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings, followed by Accounts
  3. Tap Set Defaults
  4. In the Calendar drop-down list, tap a calendar

If you are using multiple calendars, you can select a different default email address for each calendar. This allows invitations to be sent using the address you’ve specified when you create an event in a specific calendar.

  1. In the Calendar app, swipe down from the top of the screen
  2. Tap Settings, followed by Meeting Invitation Settings
  3. In the Calendar drop-down list, tap an email address

Note: Some accounts will not allow you to change the email address, e.g. your work account.
