On our 2nd day in Istanbul, 24th February 2015, after visiting Arasta Bazaar we visited Istanbul Archaeological Museums at 1:15pm. As the name suggests, it is a set of museums, all situated next to each other, the details are:
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM: Opened in June 13, 1891, Extensive collection of classical statuary and sarcophagi plus a sprawling exhibit documenting İstanbul's history.
TILED KIOSK MUSEUM (Museum of Islamic Art): (Çinili Köşk Müzesi): About 2000 artifacts belonging to Seljuk, Anatolian and Ottoman tiles and ceramics dating from the end of the 12th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
ANCIENT ORIENT MUSEUM: (Eski Şark Eserleri Müzesi): This 1883 building consists of the sections of Pre-Islamic Arabian Art, Egypt Collection, Mesopotamia Collection, Anatolia Collection, Urartu Collection and Cuneiform Documents.
Together, this is a huge museum! So huge that its difficult to go through it in one go but as it has a combined ticket thus you are obliged to do so. Although I like history and museums but there was a lot of non-interesting stuff present there. I mean unless you are a history student, you might skip through 60% of the artifacts on display there. What I liked was TILED KIOSK MUSEUM but that was also because I had not visited any Ottoman building by then, after visiting various mosques, I felt there was no need to visit TILED KIOSK MUSEUM. So unless you are really into history and you have ample amount of time, I would recommend skipping Istanbul Archaeological Museums.

- Tickets Booth Closes at 4pm

Time Required: 4hr
Getting there: Use T1 to reach Gülhane Terminal
