WINRAR 4.20 FINAL EDITION

x32 and x64 bit versions included!
Languages: English, Spanish, German
WinRAR supports the following formats: RAR, ZIP, CAB, ARJ, LZH, ACE, TAR, GZip, UUE, ISO, BZIP2, Z, 7-Zip
WHATS NEW IN WINRAR 4.20 FINAL?

Version 4.20
1. Changes in RAR compression:
a) RAR general compression algorithm is optimized for better
utilization of several processor cores. While some speed gain
is possible even in single processor mode, best results
are achieved in multi-core environment.
Speed gain depends on data type and average file size.
Several cores are utilized more efficiently when compressing
large files.
b) we had to increase memory requirements to achieve higher
compression speed. General RAR compression algorithm allocates
about 120 MB comparing to 40 MB in WinRAR 4.11;
c) RAR text compression algorithm cannot utilize several CPU cores
efficiently, so its performance in multiprocessor environment
is much lower than for general algorithm. Also its decompression
speed is much lower than in general algorithm regardless of
CPU number. So we decided to disable the text algorithm by default.
If you need maximum possible compression ratio for plain text data
regardless of speed, you can enable the text compression
in "Advanced compression parameter" dialog. Press "Compression..."
button on "Advanced" page of archiving dialog to access it.
You can also change this option permanently in default compression
profile;
In the command line mode the text compression can be enabled
with -mct switch;
d) "Fastest" (-m1) compression mode also supports several processor
cores now. In 4.11 it could use only a single processor core.
2. RAR general decompression algorithm speed is slightly improved,
though not to same extent as RAR compression. RAR decompression
is not able to use several processor cores, so its performance
does not depend on a number of cores.
3. Changes in ZIP compression:
a) now ZIP compression supports several processor cores resulting
in noticeably higher performance in multi-core environment.
Single CPU ZIP compression is also faster than in 4.11;
b) memory use for ZIP compression is increased to about 15 MB.
4. Recovery volume creating and processing can use several CPU cores
resulting in higher speed. Though, typically hard drive seek speed
is a limiting factor for recovery volumes, so this gain is most
noticeable when working with solid state drive.
5. Now the allowed value for -mt switch is 1 - 32,
not 0 - 16 as before.
6. "Find files" command can search data in 7-Zip archives.
Previously "Find files" did not support .7z archive format.
7. Windows 2000 is not supported by WinRAR and WinRAR self-extracting
modules anymore.
8. "Save current settings" button in "Advanced SFX options" dialog
is now available only when converting an existing archive to SFX.
Options saved with this button are applied only to convert to SFX
operation.
If you create or update SFX archive, only SFX options stored
in default compression profile are used. Options saved
in "Advanced SFX options" dialog are ignored for these operations.

STC simplifies recharging process for SAWA customers

The initiative comes in anticipation of the new regulation imposed by the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC), which requires customers input their national identification number (Iqama) immediately after entering their prepaid card number to charge SIM cards, recharge, or transfer balances. Customers can recharge their SAWA SIM cards in 6 easy ways.

The first method involves transferring funds by sending an SMS to 1500, containing *133* then inputting the destination SAWA phone number, followed by ( * ),  followed by the  amount to be transferred, followed by ( * ) and the national identification number of the destination user, followed by #.

The second method is processed through SAWA rechargeable cards, and requires the customer to input *155* then the recharging card’s number, followed by ( * ), followed by the Iqama number, followed by ( # ) then pressing the “call” key.

The third method requires the customer to send an SMS to 1500, that contains *155*, followed by the rechargeable card’s number, followed by ( * ), followed by the Iqama number, then ( # ) and then sending the message.

The fourth method requires the customer to call 1500, and when prompted, choose to recharge, then enter the rechargeable card’s number followed by the Iqama number.

The fifth method allows customers to recharge their cards through the STC website, at www.stc.com.sa. The sixth method involves using Al Jawwal Portal by visiting the website: www.aljawal.net.sa through the user’s phone.

The telecom giant clarified that the only identification cards that can be used to recharge SIM cards are the Iqama number, national identification card, and passport. In the event that there are letters in the passport, they should be avoided when inputting the passport number. All information entered by customers must be accurate and up to date.

BlackBerry App World 101: Content Ratings

clip_image002

Some useful information you should know if you use the BlackBerry App World™ storefront is how to enable and customize content rating options. This allows you to filter what content you see in BlackBerry App World based on four ratings: Adult, Mature, Teen, and General. To learn more about content ratings, check out the blog post New BlackBerry App World content ratings improve discovery and safety published by my colleague Alex in the Inside BlackBerry Developer Blog.

After enabling content rating settings on your smartphone or tablet, you will have the option of locking the setting as well using a four-digit password. A very important thing to consider is if you forget this password, the only way to reset it is by performing a security wipe of your smartphone or tablet.

With that being said, here’s an overview of how to enable and customize content rating settings when using a BlackBerry® smartphone or a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet:

BlackBerry smartphone

1. Open BlackBerry App World
2. Select “My Account” followed by “Content Controls”
3. Specify which type of content you would like to see:

  • Adult (18+) – Show all items
  • Mature (17+) – Show general, teen and mature items
  • Teen (13+) – Show general and teen items
  • General – Show items suitable for all ages

4. Optionally select “Lock Settings” and enter a four-digit password

  • If enabled, to disable the lock, select “Lock Settings” and enter the four-digit password
  • As mentioned earlier, this password cannot be reset so ensure you remember it!

5. Hit the Escape key when finished to save your changes.

clip_image002[1] clip_image002[2]

BlackBerry PlayBook tablet

1. Open BlackBerry App World
2. Swipe down from the top bezel and select “Content Settings”

clip_image002[3]

3. Specify which type of content you would like to see:

  • Adult (18+) – Show all items
  • Mature (17+) – Show general, teen and mature items
  • Teen (13+) – Show general and teen items
  • General – Show items suitable for all ages

4. Optionally toggle the Lock switch to “On” and enter a four-digit password to lock these settings

  • If enabled, to disable the lock, set the Lock Switch to “Off” and enter the four-digit password
  • As mentioned earlier, this password cannot be reset so ensure you remember it!

5. Select “< Back” when finished.

World First's - Invention and Discoveries

1. World First Digital Camera (1975): Created by Kodak's engineer Steve Sasson

In December 1975, Kodak engineer Steve Sasson invented something that would, decades later, revolutionize photography: the world’s first digital camera. It was the size of a toaster, and captured black and white images at a resolution of 100×100 - or 0.01 megapixels in today’s marketing terminology. The images were stored on cassette tape, taking 23 seconds to write. The camera uses an ADC from Motorola, a bog-standard (for the 1970s) lens from a Kodak movie camera, and a CCD chip from Fairchild Semiconductor - the same technology that digital cameras still use today. To playback the images, a special computer and tape reader setup (pictured below) was built, outputting the grainy images on a standard TV. It took a further 23 seconds to read each image from tape.

2. World's First Motel (1925): Motel Inn

Motel Inn in San Luis Obispo, California, is the world’s first motel. It was built in 1925 by LA architect Arthur Heineman, who coined the term motel meaning "motor hotel." Motel Inn was originally called the Milestone Mo-Tel. Back then, one night stay was $1.25. Heineman couldn’t afford the trademark registration fee, so his competitors were able to use the word "motel." The motel is still in operation today.

4. World's First Novel (1007): Tale of Genji

More than a thousend years ago, on 1007, a Japanese court lady put the finishing touches on what is considered the world's first novel. Spanning 75 years, more than 350 characters, and brimming with romantic poems, the "Tale of Genji" tells the story of an emperor's son, his quest for love, and the many women he meets along the way. It is attributed to the Japanese noblewoman Murasaki Shikibu.

7. World's First X-Ray (1895): Röntgen's wife hand

In 1895 Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, professor of physics the University of Wurburg in Germany, was doing experiments with electrical discharges in evacuated glass tubes. Late in 1895 Wilhelm Röntgen was alone at night doing his experiments, this time in the dark and noticed a glow was produced on the wall, which he knew was not caused by fluorescence or visible light. He named these new, unidentified rays 'X' or if you prefer; X-rays. After several months of playing with his discovery he noticed that objects place in the path of the rays cast shadows and created images on the wall. Soon after he used a photgraphic plate and had his wife, Frau Röntgen, place her hand in the path of the X-rays, creating the world's first X-ray picture. In 1901 Wilhelm Röntgen was awarded the very first Nobel Prize in Physics for this discovery.

In November, 1971, a company called Intel publicly introduced the world's first single chip microprocessor, the Intel 4004 (U.S. Patent #3,821,715), invented by Intel engineers Federico Faggin, Ted Hoff, and Stan Mazor. After the invention of integrated circuits revolutionized computer design, the only place to go was down -- in size that is. The Intel 4004 chip took the integrated circuit down one step further by placing all the parts that made a computer think (i.e. central processing unit, memory, input and output controls) on one small chip. Programming intelligence into inanimate objects had now become possible.

15. World's First Photograph (1826): "View from the Window at Le Gras"

Centuries of advances in chemistry and optics, including the invention of the camera obscura, set the stage for the world’s first photograph. In 1826, French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, took that photograph, titled View from the Window at Le Gras at his family’s country home. Niépce produced his photo—a view of a courtyard and outbuildings seen from the house’s upstairs window—by exposing a bitumen-coated plate in a camera obscura for several hours on his windowsill.
