The Museum of Archaeology, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Antiquity Museum in King Saud University
The establishment of this museum goes back to 1387H, (1967 AD) as part of the activity of history and archeology in society. When the Antiquity Department was established in the College of Arts in 1397–98 H, this museum has become part of this department.
Collection of the first group of antiquities has come into existence through:
· Scientific trips to some archeological sites inside the Kingdom.
· Archeological discoveries made by the department staff in FAO and Rabza.
· Gifts and donations.
The main objective behind establishing the museum was to highlight the cultural and historical aspects of the excavations of the University. It follows the directives of the College of Tourism and Antiquities, King Saud University. Also to train the department students on different branches of archeology in addition to organization and museum presentation as well as maintenance of archeological pieces. The museum is divided into sections:
· FAO Exhibited Articles Section:
This section contains the articles found in FAO Village during various excavations. These include drawings of rocks, engraftments, clay utensils, ornaments, metals and others.
· Rabza Exhibited Articles:
This section includes the articles found in Rabza Islamic Site such as clay utensils, coins and other found articles.
The contents of the museum: The museum contains artifacts selected from the results of Hafriti, Al Faw, and Rabza which is part of al the college exploration which is shown in its entirety. It includes graffiti, ceramics, pottery, jewelry and various coins, statues, murals, and others stockpiled from the exploration shites.
