Your Dark Side...

To acquire followers, there can be two types of Power:

• The Power of Money
• The Power of Leadership

The power of money requires a constant stream of money to maintain and increase their followers, whereas the power of leadership requires a constant demonstration of leadership. The followers following a leader develop a belief, thus they grow quicker because like a chain reaction they start convincing others to follow the belief they are following, whereas the followers getting money are afraid to lose their share of money if more followers join.

But the power of leadership also develops a set of people, a group, who with time starts following their leader blindly. Even when their leader stops being worthy of a leader, they keep their minds focused on finding ways to think positive about him, they will keep on trying to bring more followers and keep on defending their leader in front of others and within themselves, this happens mainly due to two reasons:

1. They stop thinking and analyzing, they stop the accountability of their thoughts.
2. They develop a fear. All those years they stood by someone or an idea, they stood against all the odds to defend it, they tried to convince so many people about their belief, now they are afraid to be proven wrong, not only in front of others but also within themselves. It's like getting out of their comfort zone, which they developed with so much passion. It's like closing all doors and windows and forcing yourself to stay away from light.

That's why The Power of Leadership is much more dangerous and historically has harmed humankind a lot more than The Power of Money.

Hadith: The Indication of a Strong Man (English/Arabic)

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The strong man is not the one who wrestles others; rather, the strong man is the one who controls himself at times of anger.” [The Book of Al-Birr: Sahih Muslim]

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The strong man is not one who is good at wrestling, but the strong man is one who controls himself in a fit of rage."

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

A King and his Close Friend

A king in Africa had a close friend he grew up with. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, "This is good!"

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off.

Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, "This is good!" To which the king replied, "No, this is NOT good!" and had his friend sent to jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took them to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake. As they came near to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king was missing a thumb.

Being superstitious, they never ate anyone that was less than whole. So untying the king, they sent him on his way. As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend.

He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. "You were right" he said, "it was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell his friend all that had just happened. "And so I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this."

"No," his friend replied, "this is good!"

"What do you mean, 'This is good?!'" How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year."

"If I had not been in jail, I would have been with you."

جرمنی ایک صنعتی ملک ہے جہاں دُنیا کی بہترین مصنوعات اور بڑے بڑے برانڈز مثلاً مرسیڈیز بینز، بی ایم ڈبلیو اور سیمنز پروڈکٹس بنتے ہیں۔ ایٹمی ری ایکٹر میں استعمال ہونے والے پمپ تو محض اس ملک کے… ایک چھوٹے سے گاؤں میں بنتے ہیں۔ اس طرح کے ترقی یافتہ ملک کے بارے میں کوئی بھی سوچ سکتا ہے کہ وہاں لوگ کس طرح عیش و عشرت کی زندگی گزارتے ہونگے، کم از کم میرا خیال تو اُس وقت یہی تھا جب میں پہلی بار اپنی تعلیم کے سلسلے میں سعودیہ سے جرمنی جا رہا تھا۔ میں جس وقت ہمبرگ پہنچا تو وہاں پہلے سے موجود میرے دوست میرے استقبال کیلئے ایک ریسٹورنٹ میں دعوت کا پروگرام بنا چکے تھے۔ جس وقت ہم ریسٹورنٹ میں داخل ہوئے اس وقت وہاں گاہک نا ہونے کے برابر اور اکثر میزیں خالی نظر آ رہی تھیں۔ ہمیں جو میز دی گئی اس کے اطراف میں ایک میز پر نوجوان میاں بیوی کھانا کھانے میں مشغول تھے ، اُن کے سامنے صرف ایک ڈش میں کھانا رکھا ہوا تھا جس کو وہ اپنی اپنی پلیٹ میں ڈال کر کھا رہے اور شاید دونوں کے سامنے ایک ایک گلاس جوس بھی رکھا ہوا نظر آ رہا تھا جس سے میں نے یہی اندازہ لگایا کہ بیچاروں کا رومانوی ماحول میں بیٹھ کر کھانا کھانے کوتو دل چاہ رہا ہوگا مگر جیب زیادہ اجازت نا دیتی ہو گی۔ ریسٹورنٹ میں ان کے علاوہ کچھ عمر رسیدہ خواتین نظر آ رہی تھیں۔ ہم سب کی بھوک اپنے عروج پر تھی اور اسی بھوک کا حساب لگاتے ہوئے میرے دوستوں نے کھانے کا فراخدلی سے آرڈر لکھوایا۔ ریسٹورنٹ میں گاہکوں کے نا ہونے کی وجہ سے ہمارا کھانے لگنے میں زیادہ وقت نا لگا اور ہم نے بھی کھانے میں خیر سے کوئی خاص دیر نا لگائی۔ پیسے ادا کر کے جب ہم جانے کیلئے اُٹھے تو ہماری پلیٹوں میں کم از کم ایک تہائی کھانا ابھی بھی بچا ہوا تھا۔ باہر جانے کیلئے دروازے کی طرف بڑھتے ہوئے ریسٹورنٹ میں موجود اُن بڑھیاؤں نے ہمیں آوازیں دینا شروع کر دیں۔ ہم نے مڑ کر دیکھا تو وہ ساری اپنی جگہ کھڑی ہو کر زور زور سے باتیں کر رہی تھیں اور ہم نے یہی اندازہ لگایا کہ اُنکا موضوع ہمارا ضرورت سے زیادہ کھانا طلب کرنا اور اس طرح بچا کر ضائع کرتے ہوئے جانا تھا۔ میرے دوست نے جواباً اُنہیں کہا کہ ہم نے جو کچھ آرڈر کیا تھا اُس کے پیسے ادا کر دیئے ہیں اور تمہاری اس پریشانی اور ایسے معاملے میں جس کا تم سے کوئی تعلق ہی نہیں بنتا میں دخل اندازی کرنا ہماری سمجھ سے باہر ہے۔ ایک عورت یہ بات سُنتے ہی ٹیلیفون کی طرف لپکی اور کسی کو فوراً وہاں آنے کو کہا۔ ایسی صورتحال میں ہمارا وہاں سے جانا یا کھسک جانا ہمارے لیئے مزید مسائل کھڑے کر سکتا تھا اس لئے ہم وہیں ٹھہرے رہے۔ کچھ ہی دیر میں وہاں ایک باوردی شخص آیا جس نے اپنا تعارف ہمیں سوشل سیکیوریٹی محکمہ کے ایک افسر کی حیثیت سے کرایا۔ صورتحال کو دیکھ اور سن کر اُس نے ہم پر پچاس فرانک کا جرما نہ عائد کر۔ اس دوران ہم چپ چاپ کھڑے رہے۔ میرے دوست نے آفیسر سے معذرت کرتے ہوئے پچاس فرانک جرمانہ ادا کیا اور اس نے ایک رسید بنا کر میرے دوست کو تھما دی۔ آفیسر نے جرمانہ وصول کرنے کے بعد شدید لہجے میں ہمیں نصیحت کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ : آئندہ جب بھی کھانا طلب کرو تو اُتنا ہی منگواؤ جتنا تم کھا سکتے ہو۔ تمہارے پیسے تمہاری ملکیت ضرور ہیں مگر وسائل معاشرے کی امانت ہیں۔ اس دنیا میں ہزاروں لوگ ایسے بھی ہیں جو غذائی کمی کا شکار ہیں۔ تمہارا کوئی حق نہیں بنتا کہ تم کھانے پینے کی اشیاء کو اس طرح ضائع کرتے پھرو۔ بے عزتی کے احساس اور شرمساری سے ہمارے چہرے سرخ ہورہے تھے۔ ہمارے پاس اُس آفیسر کی بات کو سننے اور اس سے اتفاق کرنے کے سوا کوئی چارہ بھی نہیں تھا۔ ذہنی طور پر ہر اُس بات کے قائل ہو چکے تھے جو اُس نے ہمیں کہی تھیں۔ مگر کیا کریں ہم لوگ ایسے ملک سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں جو وسائل کے معاملے میں تو خود کفیل نہیں ہے مگر ہماری عادتیں کچھ اس طرح کی بن گئی ہیں کہ ہمارے پاس کوئی مہمان آ جائے تو اپنا منہ رکھنے کیلئے یا اپنی جھوٹی عزت یا خود ساختہ اور فرسودہ روایات کی پاسداری خاطر دستر خوان پر کھانے کا ڈھیر لگا دیں گے۔ نتیجتاً بہت سا ایسا کھانا کوڑے کے ڈھیر کی نظر ہوجاتا ہے جس کے حصول کیلیئے کئی دوسرے ترس رہے ہوتے ہیں۔سچ تو یہ ہے کہ ہمیں اس بات کی اشد ضرورت ہے کہ ہم اپنی ان بری عادتوں کو تبدیل کریں اور نعمتوں کا اس طرح ضیاع اور انکا اس طرح سے کفران نا کریں۔ ریسٹورنٹ سے باہر نکل کر میرے دوست نے سامنے کی ایک دکان سے جرمانے کی رسید کی فوٹو کاپیاں بنوا کر ہم سب کو اس واقعہ کی یادگار کے طور پر دیں تاکہ ہم گھر جا کر اسے نمایاں طور پر کہیں آویزاں کریں اور ہمیشہ یاد رکھیں کہآئندہ کبھی بھی اس طرح کا اسراف نہیں کریں گے۔ جی ہاں! آپکا مال یقیناً آپکی مِلکیت ہے مگر وسائل سارے معاشرے کیلئے ہیں۔ مصنف : محمّد سلیم
