While checking Istanbul Attractions on TripAdvisor we found this room escape game ‘MazeUp’ with pretty high ratings. We had not played such game before thus we were very excited. We checked other escape room games as well in Istanbul but their reviews were not that good. I asked MazeUp Team for some information on their Facebook page and they were quick to respond.
The game is for 1 hr., their website offers online booking for available slots with advance payment, my visa took some time to finalize thus I couldn’t book online but it is recommended to do that because even if the website is showing empty slot, there is a possibility that the game is not available.
While making the schedule for our Turkey trip, we kept this game on our 1st day as our first attraction, the only problem we faced was that we didn’t know about the landscape of the city and while using Google maps we chose to get out on T1 Tophane Station and walked to ‘MazeUp’ location which was merely 800m, what we didn’t know was that it was not walking but hiking! So if you are not in a mood of a warm-up before the game (which is actually not a pre-req for this game) then better to chose a station in Taksim area.
Once you reach at the location you might have to put a little effort finding the exact building because the neighborhood is not well aware of this name and there is no big board indicating its name, there is just a small name plate outside a closed door where you have to ring a bell, answer appropriately and the door will open and then climb the stairs to reach the exact location.
The owner is very friendly, he gave us a briefing about the game and then the game started. It is a well designed game with high quality puzzles. The 60 min passed in a jiffy. We were able to reach till the last clue but couldn’t solve it. It was great fun and we enjoyed it a lot. As I have not played such a game before thus I can’t compare it with other such facilities but for a 1st timer its highly recommended.
After the game we walked to Istiklal Street and Taksim Square which are near.
Tips:
- I think a group size of 3 to 4 people would be appropriate to play it.
- Wear comfortable clothes.
- Think and don’t rush to things, it’s a well designed game thus hit and try won’t be effective.

Suggestions to MazeUp Team:
- You can take some random pictures of the players while they are busy solving puzzles, those would be good memories for the players.
- You can make 2 versions of the same game, current version which takes 1 hr. can be referred to as shorter version, a new longer version can be made which will take 2 hours to solve, in that version you will increase the number of puzzles and you will charge more for that version. This might help you getting the same customers again coz once they have tried the shorter version, they might like to try to longer version some other day.
- While visiting Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam in Istanbul, I saw something which can be good edition to the puzzles you have:
