Everything you need to know about Bedside Mode in BlackBerry 10

Did you know that BlackBerry 10 includes a Bedside mode option that disables your notifications, (with the exception of your alarm) so you can sleep without interruption?

If you want to get interrupted by a call, or notifications from a specific application when Bedside Mode is enabled you can because it is pretty customizable. For example, you can set Bedside Mode to automatically place your device into Battery Saving Mode which is a great way to maximize battery life when you can’t plug in overnight!

How to enter and exit Bedside Mode

To place your device into Bedside mode you have three options;

Option 1 – From the Clock app

  1. Open the Clock app
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen
  3. Tap Bedside Mode

Option 2 – From the lock screen

To switch to Bedside Mode from the lock screen all you need to do is wake the device by pressing the power key followed by swiping your finger from the top to the bottom of the screen.

  1. Wake your device by pressing the power button
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen to the bottom

To exit bedside mode just swipe up from the bottom of your screen.

Option 3 – From the Quick Settings menu

You can add a Bedside Mode option to your device’s Quick Settings menu using the steps below for one touch access to Bedside Mode:

  1. Go to Settings followed by Quick Settings
  2. Enable Bedside Mode
    • Tap Rearrange to change the order of your Quick Settings menu (optional)
  3. Tap Back to save your changes

After completing these steps, swipe down from the top of your display while viewing the home screen, (or using two fingers if you are within an app) to see the Quick Settings menu which will now display a Bedside Mode option.

Customizing Bedside Mode

Analog or digital?

By default your device will show an analog clock face but you can optionally use a digital clock face.

  1. Open the Clock app
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen, tap Clock Settings
  3. Tap Clock Face select Analog, or Digital

Optionally turn off, or on Wireless Connections and Battery Saving Mode

If you don’t use a charger overnight, consider allowing Bedside Mode to turn off your wireless connections and place your device into Battery Saving Mode by using the steps below.

  1. Open the Clock app
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen, tap Clock Settings
  3. To turn your wireless connections on or off, turn off Wireless Connections in Bedside Mode
  4. To turn Battery Saving Mode on or off, toggle Battery Saving in Bedside Mode

Customize your Bedside Mode notifications

By default all of your notifications are set to silent when using Bedside Mode, but you can customize things to suit your needs such as allowing your phone to ring if you would like to be notified of calls overnight.

  1. Open the Clock app
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen, tap Clock Settings
  3. Tap Bedside Mode Notification Settings
  4. Optionally customize the Volume, Sound, Vibrate, Notify During Calls, Instant Previews, or LED settings
  5. To set customized app notifications that override the settings for the notification profile, tap Customize App Notifications
    • If you want to receive phone calls when using Bedside Mode for example, tap Phone, and turn on the Sound switch.
