To help you boost your productivity while using the BlackBerry Hub here are three of my favorite ‘must-know’ tips! Tip #1 – Pinch to view unread messagesIntroduced in BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2, Priority Hub is a great way to view messages from specific contacts, messages marked as high-priority, messages from conversations you started, or contacts with the same last name. To learn more about the Priority Hub and how you can customize it, open the Help app on your device, or review the user guide found at http://help.blackbery.com. If you don’t use this feature you can turn it off which allows you to quickly view only your unread messages by using a pinch gesture – something I find myself doing twenty times a day :) To try this out on your device, complete the following steps.
After completing these steps, go back to your message list and perform a pinch gesture to quickly view your unread messages only. To go back to your complete message list, slide your fingers apart like you are zooming out. Tip #2 – Mark Prior Read, or Delete PriorFor times when you need to perform some bulk email management on your device, here are two important things you’ll want to know. The first is the Mark Prior Read option which will mark multiple items as read, the second is Delete Prior which will remove a group of messages. When using either option, be mindful of your current Hub view. For example, if you are viewing the default Hub view, the Mark Prior Read and Delete prior options will affect interactions across any account you have setup on your device. To use this option on a specific account only, for example your Twitter account, tap and select which specific account you would like view. To use this feature complete the following: While viewing the BlackBerry Hub, tap and hold on a data banner (circled in red below) A menu will appear along the right side of the screen with options to Mark Prior Read, or Delete Prior Note: Depending on how your email account is set up, messages that are removed from your smartphone as a result of using the Delete Prior option will also be removed from your mailbox. To review your “Delete On” settings, go to the Hub > tap > Settings > Display and Actions > Delete On. Tip #3 – Switching between messagesThe next time you are catching up on your messages make sure you try out the methods listed below as they can help you quickly move between your next and previous messages. Method 1 – Using overlay buttons To move between messages using a single touch consider turning on the Next and Previous Overlays option using the steps below.
For those using BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.1.0.4181 or later you can use a gesture to move between messages. All you need to do while viewing a message is swipe from left to right following by swiping up or down. Swiping up will take you to the next message where swiping down will open the previous message. This is my favorite way to move back and forth between messages :D Method 3 – Using a keyboard shortcut For those using a BlackBerry 10 device with a physical keyboard such as the BlackBerry Classic, or BlackBerry Passport you can press N or P to switch between your next and previous messages. If you are using an all-touch device such as the BlackBerry Leap you can use these shortcuts as well provided the virtual keyboard is displayed, too.
