If you use Samsung Smart Switch on Windows, for taking backups of your mobile, then you might have faced this issue.
Scenario:
Sometimes Samsung Smart Switch on Windows prompt for an update, once you click update, it downloads the newer version of Samsung Smart Switch software and tries to install it but ends up with an error stating that you already have a newer version installed and you would need to uninstall it first.
If you uninstall the already installed Samsung Smart Switch software and download it again from the Samsung Smart Switch official website (SmartSwitchPC_setup.exe), it installs but as soon as you run it, it prompts for the update and then again same happens, as mentioned above. Thus it's an infinite loop.
Issue:
The bug is in Samsung Smart Switch version comparison, the newly downloaded version is indeed newer version but it prompts a wrong error that the installed version is newer and thus it prevents it from upgrading.
Solution:
When you are prompted to install the newer version, proceed with it. When you receive the error that a newer version was already installed, proceed with uninstalling the already installed version. Once uninstalled, open file explorer and navigate to C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Temp
Replace [UserName] with the actual user name of your current Windows Account.
Find the newly downloaded version of Samsung Smart Switch, the folder name would be something like SmartSwitch_20190819091246. Run the setup and install the Samsung Smart Switch. It should install and run properly, without prompting you to upgrade because it is the latest version.
Hope this helps.
