A Farewell to Orkut

After ten years of sparking conversations and forging connections, we have decided it's time for us to start saying goodbye to Orkut. Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Orkut's growth, we've decided to focus our energy and resources on making these other social platforms as amazing as possible for everyone who uses them.

We will shut down Orkut on September 30, 2014. Until then, there will be no impact on you, so you may have time to manage the transition. You can export your profile data, community posts and photos using Google Takeout (available until September 2016). We are preserving an archive of all public communities, which will be available online starting September 30, 2014. If you don't want your posts or name to be included in the community archive, you can remove Orkut permanently from your Google account. Please visit our Help Center for any further details.

It's been a great 10 years, and we apologize to those of you still actively using the service. We hope you will find other online communities to spark more conversations and build even more connections for the next decade and beyond.

Only a few people know that I am part of Genius Book of World Records, in 2007 when Siemens MN merged Nokia Net to make NSN, Nokia had association with Panda.org (WWF), as NSN employee I was able to register to Panda.org, there was some competition going on in which one had to answer environment related questions, I topped in MEA region and later I was invited by WWF to be part of World's Largest Tiger Mosaic, the  two-storey-high photo mosaic was created from personal photos of nearly 25,000 tiger lovers from at least 146 countries and I was one of them (representing Pakistan, although I had nothing to do with tigers). 35 organizations working to save wild tigers prepared that, they succeeded in whatever they wanted to achieve and I got myself in World Records

In 2001, in the course of Technical Writing, Madam Hina gave us a project in which we had to devise our own method of evaluation of all class fellows, my grp had Marry, Vicky, Shumayl, Musawar and we named our grp AIWA, based on our analysis we named Ali Munir as the most intelligent student of our class although his GPA was nothing but avg. A few days back he informed me that mashAllah he has topped again (2 consecutive years) in his course of Aalim, he is doing a full time job, did a cisco certification recently, sole caretaker of his family, conduct lectures in DHA Masjid and is close in completing his Aalim course, when he got the direction right, how far he has left behind all of us
