On our 2nd day in Istanbul, 24th February 2015, after visiting Nuruosmaniye Mosque, our last destination was The Grand Bazaar, we reached there at 4:53pm. As expected it is huge, it is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 3,000 shops, In 2014, it is listed No.1 among world's most-visited tourist attractions with 91,250,000 annual visitors. My wife bought some jewelry, some pics are as follows:
Tips for Visitors:
- There are no fix prices and it seems the margin of profit is huge because we got some really big discounts after finding the right shops and negotiating.
- As per our experience the shops which were more inside in narrow streets were cheaper as compared to the shops which were near the gates of the market.
- There are no bathrooms anywhere inside the Grand Bazaar.
- I have read on internet that you can get slightly better deals at the end of the day, after sellers have met their quotas. We didn’t plan it this way but the 2 times we went there was end of the day.
- While doing your survey of prices, take note of the shops which are offering good deals because it is quite easy to not be able to find that shop again.
