Pakistan needs your help

Essential Non Food Items for a family of 7 As you must be aware, the floods that struck Pakistan last month continue to wreak havoc as rains continue. To give you a brief idea,

· More than 20 million Pakistanis have been affected by this catastrophe. That means one out of every 9 Pakistanis has been affected

· One fifth of the country is submerged; millions are without shelter, food and other items of basic survival

· The damage to infrastructure, land not to mention hundreds of lives lost makes this calamity bigger than the 2004 Tsunami, 2005 Kashmir Earthquake and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake combined

Please visit the following links so that you can see for yourself photos narrating the extent of damage done, the impact it has had on the country and the state of the affectees:

What is Mobilink doing?Kitchen Utensils for a Family of 7

Through our philanthropic arm, Mobilink Foundation, we responded to the catastrophe with urgency. I would like to share that Mobilink was among the first private sector organizations to set up a fund of Rs. 85 million for Flood Relief efforts with the support of our parent company Orascom Telecom Holding. In addition, Mobilink employees have contributed more than Rs. 6.5 million from their salaries, through collection points and funds raised through friends and family. Moreover, Orascom has also launched an International Campaign to raise awareness and funds for Pakistan Flood Relief Activities.

A key driver in our efforts is employee volunteerism. Currently we have a cross functional team involving Marketing, CSR, Sales, HR, Admin, Security, Finance and Sales all working together in their respective regions to identify and serve the flood affectees be it from procuring aid items to coordinating delivery to packing and loading them onto trucks. With the expertise of our field staff, our aim is to scope out and cater to areas where aid has not reached. We are also coordinating with relief organizations and the armed forces for distribution on ground where required.

To date, Mobilink Foundation has reached out to more than 41,500 individuals affected by the floods in far-flung areas including surroundings of Multan, Muzaffargarh, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swat, Sukkur, D.I. Khan as well as smaller towns and villages across Pakistan. To learn more about how we are utilizing these funds with the help of our employees and volunteer force in coordination with organizations on ground, you can visit http://mobilinkfoundation.org/flood_relief.php. Dry Food Rations for a Family of 7 costing $40

About Mobilink Foundation

Established in December 2007, the Foundation is Mobilink’s philanthropic arm and is a non-profit organization driven by Mobilink employees. The Foundation’s audit report for the year ended December 31st 2009 is also attached.

As one of the largest private sector organizations in the country, Mobilink has always been at the forefront in supporting our fellow citizens in times such as these. We have an experienced team who have been a part of Mobilink’s efforts in the 2005 earthquake, Balochistan floods and more recently the support of Internally Displaced Persons of Swat and Buner, as well as a generous employee and subscriber base that makes us ideally positioned to deliver effectively. To view the documentary on Mobilink Camp for IDPs established for 1,000 families visit http://www.mobilinkgsm.com/csr/idp.php

Donate to Mobilink Foundation

If you have not donated yet, you can donate to Mobilink Foundation now. To remit money to the Mobilink Foundation account, refer to attached PDF.

Please feel free to write to mobilinkfoundation@mobilink.net in case of queries.

Just to give you an idea, a $40 contribution will enable us to provide dry food rations to a family of 7 for at least 2 weeks. Each $100 is sufficient to provide a family basic utensils such as pots, pans, mats, cloth, jerry cans and so on.

This is a moment that calls upon us to come forward and respond to this emergency. While relief organizations, private sector and individuals are showing tremendous spirit, unfortunately, only a fraction of the affectees are within reach of emergency aid. In the same spirit, at Mobilink we are doing everything we can and in this critical hour, we need all the help we can get. I hope that you will look deep into your heart and pockets.

Please note, every rupee, every dollar, every prayer counts.

Will we have an extravagant Iftari tonight?

Post Type :

A few days back few of my gym pals suggested let’s go for iftari at Pir Sohawa. First thought as a “human” that came to my mind while fasting was wow a scrumptious meal at picturesque Pir Sohawa!! An instant second thought was I am going to spend Rs 1000 if not less at a restaurant, where I will end up overeating and having a heavy feeling, when there are millions in my country who perhaps may have no meal tonight, why not donate that to the relief efforts going on in flood affected areas. With that I said to my friends; hey buddies plz give me Rs 1000 each that you were to spend on iftari let’s pool that money and give it to a relief camp, and that is what we just did. I enjoyed a decent iftari at home with my family instead.
I am sure we have had lot of iftari’s, amazing one’s in life and we will have a lot more INSHALLAH! But this Ramzan can we try to cut down on our extravagant life style and pitch in for our fellow countrymen in need? They need your help, so please help. Let’s forget about who is doing what, the need of the time is what can “I” do myself, how can “I” contribute. Because together all I’s become “We”.
I post here a link where you can find all the credible sources where you can donate. Every penny counts, make yourself count.

Self Appraisal :D

A little boy went to a telephone booth which was at the cash counter of a store and dialed a number.
The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation:
Boy : "Lady, Can you give me the job of cutting your lawn?
Woman : (at the other end of the phone line) "I already have someone to cut my lawn."
Boy : "Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price than
the person who cuts your lawn now."
Woman : I'm very satisfied with the person who is presently cutting my lawn.
Boy : (with more perseverance) "Lady, I'll even sweep the floor and the stairs of your house for free.
Woman : No, thank you.
With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy.
Store Owner : "Son... I like your attitude; I like that positive spirit and would like to offer you a job."
Boy : "No thanks,
Store Owner : But you were really pleading for one.
Boy : No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to!"

This is called
"Self Appraisal"

10 (a) 4     (b) 2     (c) 3     (d) 5     (e) 6     (f) 1

Now add up the total number of points.

OVER 60 POINT:
Others see you as someone they should 'handle with care'.  You're seen as vain, self-centered, and who is extremely dominant.  Others may admire you, wishing they could be more like you, but don't always trust you, hesitating to become too deeply involved with you.

51 TO 60 POINTS
:  Others see you as an exciting, highly volatile, rather impulsive personality, a natural leader, who's quick to make decisions, though not always the right ones.  They see you as bold and adventuresome, someone who will try anything once, some one who takes chances and enjoys an adventure.  They enjoy being in your company because of the excitement you radiate.

41 TO 50 POINTS
:  Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting, someone who's constantly in the centre of attention, but sufficiently well balanced not to let it go to their head.  They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding, someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.
31 TO 40 POINTS:
Others see you as sensible, cautious, careful & practical.  They see you as clever, gifted, or talented , but modest.  Not a person who makes friends too
quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you do make and who expects the same loyalty in return.  Those who really get to know you, realize it takes a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes you a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.
21 TO 30 POINTS:
Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy.  They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder.  It would really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively

or on the spur of the moment, expecting you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then, usually decide against it. They think this reaction is caused partly by your careful nature..
UNDER 21
POINTS:
People think you are shy, nervous, and indecisive, someone who needs looking after, who always wants someone else to make the decisions and who doesn't want to get involved with anyone or anything! They see you as a worrier who always sees problems that don't exist.  Some people think you're boring.  Only those who know you well, know that you aren't.

Google: Responding to the Pakistan floods

Post Type :

Pakistan has been struck by the worst flooding in its recorded history. The latest estimate of people affected by the flood exceeds 14 million - more than the combined total of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
While we recognize that it is just one effort of many, Google is also trying to help with disaster relief by putting our technology to use (official Google blog post).
We've created a crisis response page (Urdu) that hosts a variety of tools and compiles information about the disaster, including the latest news from local media sources, any available satellite imagery of the affected areas, and ways to donate to verified NGOs supporting the relief effort. It can also be accessed from the Google.com.pk homepage.
For those concerned about loved ones, the Pakistan Person Finder Tool can be used to submit or search for information about individuals who may have been affected. Similarly, the Pakistan Resource Finder Tool helps disseminate updated information about health facility services, including doctors, equipment and beds available, which may change rapidly during the disaster. These tools are available in English and Urdu. We encourage organizations and media sites to embed the gadgets on their sites and help spread the word. (Instructions on embedding are listed below.)
In addition, we've made an initial monetary donation of $250,000 to immediately aid in relief efforts. We are continuing to explore what tools and imagery we can provide that will be helpful and will be posting updates to the Pakistan disaster response page:

Resource Finder a new tool to help disseminate updated information about which services various health facilities offer. It provides a map with editable records to help relief workers maintain up-to-date information on the services, doctors, equipment and beds available at neighboring health facilities so that they can efficiently arrange patient transfers. We normally wouldn’t release the tool so quickly, but decided to make an early release version of Resource Finder available for supporting relief efforts in Pakistan. This is the first time the tool is being launched during a disaster situation so we’ll be working closely with NGOs to understand its usefulness and will iterate accordingly. As a volunteer, you or any NGO can contribute to this tool by adding new resources and/or editing/updating already existing ones.
Another great example of how NGOs are bringing transparency to donors & efficiency in actual delivery of their relief efforts is Bacha Khan Trust Educational Fund (wait for a while for the page to load fully). They have embedded Google Maps on their website displaying their relief activities & the geography covered.
Hope this helps.

FLV Converter

http://www.flv-converter.org/

Flv Converter is free Windows software for conversion of Macromedia Flash FLV format into one of the many output video formats. The FLV format is also know as a flash video format and it's extension is ".flv". Today, flash flv format is widely popular and it established itself as standard for publishing embedded video streams on internet. Many of the most popular web sites with video content use FLV as a chosen format (youtube, google video etc)

With our free software Flv Converter, you can convert your flv encoded video content into the today's most popular and wide spread video formats which are used on desktop computers, mobile phones, laptops and removable devices and various audio players. The conversion is available into the following formats: avi, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, mp4, mov, ipod, psp, iPhone, 3gp and mp3. With mp3 the Flv Converter will convert the audio stream only since mp3 is an audio carrier format only.

Flv Converter is also available for download as a portable, stand alone version, single exe file that you can run from usb removable device without install procedure.

When making this application we wanted it to be simple, user friendly and easily understandable to the largest audience. The basic operations are located at the main toolbar and the program operates by making the list of "ready to be converted" files in flash video FLV format. It is possible to add and queue multiple files for conversion at once - an option that is missing even from many commercial applications. Moreover, you can add flv files with drag and drop system which is supported for Windows OS..

You can always check the file with preview option before you add it into the list and start converting. Flv Converter gives you an opportunity to adjust manu options for encoding the output file, like the quality settings, audio and video bit rate, frame rate per second and other options.

For more information's about how to use Flv Converter check the online help.

Flv Converter is as is, free of charge to use software. Flv Converter is clean application, it does not contain advertisements, malware or any kind of badware. Flv Converter does not try to secretly connect to internet and it doesn't collect any information's about the users and their systems.

Reward for Charity

Allaah says in the Qur'aan, in surah al-hadid:

"Who is he that will lend Allaah a goodly loan: then (Allaah) will increase it manifold to his credit (in repaying), and he will have (besides) a good reward (i.e. Paradise)"

Al-Tirmidhi (2470) narrated that they slaughtered a sheep at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and gave it in charity except for its shoulder. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) asked ‘As’ishah, “What is left of it?” She said: “Nothing is left except the shoulder.” He said: “All of it will remain except its shoulder.”

Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

What this means is that whatever a person eats is that which is gone and no longer remains, but that which he gives in charity is what will remain for him with Allaah and he will benefit from it on the Day of Resurrection. This hadeeth is a reference to the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever is with Allaah (of good deeds) will remain” [al-Nahl 16:96]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us that every man will be shaded by his charity on the Day of Resurrection, the day on which the sun will be brought close to people’s heads until Allaah passes judgement between them. Narrated by Ahmad, 16882; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 4510.

"The most beloved of people according to Allah is he who brings most benefit, and the most beloved of deeds according to Allah the Mighty, the Magnificent, is that you bring happiness to a fellow Muslim, or relieve him of distress, or pay off his debt or stave away hunger from him.

It is more beloved to me that I walk with my brother Muslim in his time of need than I stay secluded in the mosque for a month. Whoever holds back his anger, Allah will cover his faults and whoever suppresses his fury while being able to execute it, Allah will fill his heart with satisfaction on the Day of Standing. Whoever walks with his brother Muslim in need until he establishes that for him, Allah will establish his feet firmly on the day when all feet shall slip.

Indeed, bad character ruins deeds just as vinegar ruins honey." [Tabarâni, Hasan]

"Whosoever removes a worldly grief from a believer, Allah will remove from him one of the griefs of the Day of Judgment. Whosoever alleviates [the lot of] a needy person, Allah will alleviate [his lot] in this world and the next. Whosoever shields a Muslim, Allah will shield him in this world and the next. Allah will aid a servant [of His] so long as the servant aids his brother. Whosoever follows a path to seek knowledge therein, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise. No people gather together in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, without tranquility descending upon them, mercy enveloping them, the angels surrounding them, and Allah making mention of them amongst those who are with Him. Whosoever is slowed down by his actions will not be hastened forward by his lineage." [Muslim]

GIKI-B12 Summary Report :: Round-1 Flood Relief Efforts SWAT

Post Type :

From: Ali Mohsin

In all fairness and by personally meeting and coordinating with the army in Mingora, Khawaza Khela, Alpurai etc, we can vouch that they are the most equipped and efficient and organized to provide relief 24/7 to these affected people.

A couple of videos we managed to make during the trip. More will be uploaded with proper subtitles later on.

If any other teams are going in Swat/Shangla area, we will be happy to arrange contact with the local Civil and Army setup who are coordinating the relief efforts in that area.
The security situation in Swat is all clear. Army is in full control.  Mingora is easily accessible from Islamabad>Mardan>BattKhela (Malakand Road).
