Working with text and controlling the cursor Use the following cursor and text tips to help increase your efficiency when responding to emails, creating new documents and much more. For example, my favorite shortcut is pressing R when viewing a blog post in the browser so I can use reader mode. To find other shortcuts, open the Help app and search for “shortcuts” or review the BlackBerry Q5 user guide. While viewing your list of messages - Compose a message – Press C
- Search the BlackBerry Hub – Press S
- Next Unread Message – Press U
- Move to the top of the BlackBerry Hub – Press T
- Move to the bottom of the BlackBerry Hub – Press B
While in a message - Reply – Press R
- Reply All – Press L
- Forward – Press F
Adding symbols and accented characters To add a symbol or accented character, press and hold a key to see the available symbols along the bottom of the screen. You can also add other symbols by tapping the sym key. For additional typing shortcuts, review the typing on the keyboard section within the BlackBerry Q5 user guide or open the Help app and search “typing on the keyboard.” Adding and removing typing languages Looking to add another typing language? Here’s how you can select up to three different languages and switch between them on the fly, or manually: - On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
- Tap Settings followed by Language and Input
- Tap Input Languages followed by the Add/Remove Language icon along the bottom toolbar
- Select the checkbox beside the languages that you want to enable
If you need to switch input languages often, try turning on Language Detection within the Input Languages screen. When you enable this option, your device will detect which of up to three different languages you’re using and automatically adjust spell check, word completion and other features to match. If you prefer switching languages manually, turn off Language Detection and whenever you are typing, press alt and the enter to switch languages. These language features make connecting with people across the world really easy and as someone trying to learn a new language, it has really helped me out since I can switch back and forth when I’m unsure of what to say. To find out more about using multiple languages on your BlackBerry Q5, hop into the Help app and search for “languages” or review the language section within the BlackBerry Q5 user guide.
