I have just discovered that Nissan Alissa (Saudi Arabia) Website (http://www.nissan-alissa.com) is running a script that allows the site to mine visitors’ extra CPU power for cryptocurrency.
Date: 27-Sep-17
Time: 6:52 AM
Script: https://coin-hive.com/lib/coinhive.min.js
Name: HEUR:Trojan.Script.Generic
Type: Trojan program
The crypto mining Javascript is called Coinhive, and according to (https://coin-hive.com/blog/status-report), it was made as an alternative to banner ads as a way for website owners to get around ad-blockers.
The script mines the cryptocurrency known as Monero (https://localmonero.co/). Launched in April 2014, Monero is meant to be a more anonymous version of Bitcoin because you can purchase it offline with cash. Thirty percent of the proceeds go to Coinhive, while sites using the service, like Nissan Alissa, keeps the rest.
