Islamic Horizons May / Jun 2006: It was recorded that the Prophet SAW never ate until he was completely full. He also endured great hunger during his life time.

Abu Talhah Radiyallahu 'Anhu says:
"We complained to Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam about the severe pangs of hunger, and showed him the stones fastened on our stomachs. A stone was fastened on the stomach of every one of us due to severe hunger. Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam showed us two stones fastened onto his stomach". (Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam experienced more hunger than we did, and he had spent a longer period than us since he had last eaten).

How often do we fill our stomachs to capacity while eating? How often do we find it hard to
pray and remain mindful of Allah because our stomachs are stuffed? Let us try to control our
appetites by eating moderately and restraining ourselves before we reach satiety.

What is Free in Saudi Arabia but Requires Money in Other Countries (Updated)

It is human nature that it's difficult to realize and be thankful for what one has and its very easy to notice and envy what one doesn't have. We only realize the importance of what we have once we have lost it.

There are many things which are Free of Cost in Saudi Arabia but are charged in many other countries. I have compiled the following list in this regard, plz feel free to share if I have missed something.

1. There are No Taxes like:
    • Income tax
    • Payroll tax
    • Property tax
    • Consumption tax etc
2. Free Parking: I am only aware of 2 places in the whole country where parking is charged, that is because 10+ Million people visit those places every year, except that and airports, parking is free in the whole country.

Update 25-04-2016: A reader Abu Emaan pointed out that there is a company Mawgif operating in KSA which offers Paid Parking facilities. Upon further checking, it was found out that Mawgif has established paid parking lots in busy commercial centers in Jeddah and Khobar.
3. Beaches: Access to all beaches is Free. That is 1000s of KMs of beaches.
4. Parks: Entry to most of the community parks and all of the national parks is Free. Many parks have free BBQ places available.
5. Events: Entry to most of the events is Free. Like participating in Startup Weekends is free here whereas it's charged in rest of the world. Similarly, Car Shows, Technology Events, Medical Events etc have usually Free Entry.
6. Free Gifts: In many festivals and events, free gifts are given. And those are not some cheap gifts, I have received USB Sticks & Hubs, Power Banks, Universal Travel Adapter, Leather Wallets, Leather Personal Agendas, Car USB Charger and Shades, T-Shirts, Caps, Mugs, Stationery Items, Chocolates and Other Food Items etc.
7. Museums: Entry to most of the Museums is Free.
8. Historical Sites: Entry to most of the Historical Sites is Free.
9. Toilets: Use of all toilets is Free.
10. Airport Trolleys: Use of all Airport Trolleys is Free.
11. Supermarket Trolleys: Use of all Supermarket Trolleys is Free.
12. Grocery Bags: Use of any kind of Grocery Bag is Free.
13. Food: In the Holy Month of Ramadan, Free Food (Dinner) is given to thousands of people if not millions.

Joke: Do u believe in ghosts?

From: Haseeb

Joke: Let's go for a dinner tonight...

Wife - Let's go for a dinner tonight.
Husband (HR Manager) - Ok.
Husband - Should we go to an sasta restaurant ?
...
Wife - No. Let's go to Royal Palace hotel.
Husband - (silence for a minute) - Ok, See you at 7.O 'Clock.
On the way, around 6.30 pm...
Husband - Once time, I had pani puri competition with my sister and she ate 30 pani-puris and defeated me.
Wife - What's so difficult in it?
Husband - Defeating me in Pani-puri eating competition is so difficult.
Wife - I can easily beat you.
Husband - Please leave it. It's not your cup of tea.
Wife - Let us have that competition right now.
Husband - So you want to see yourself defeated?
Wife - Let's see.
They both stop at a Pani-puri stall and start eating...
After about 30 Pani-puris the husband gave up.
The wife was also full, but to defeat her husband, she ate one more and shouted, "You lose."
The bill was Rs 50/- and wife was back home, happy with her bet win!
Moral of the Story...
The main aim of an HR Manager is to satisfy employee with minimum investments. Winning attitude with less investment, ensuring strong Return On Investment!😛

See, O Humans
The birds flying high in the skies
Just see what they do
Neither do they hoard their food
Nor do they starving die
Has anyone ever seen
Birds dying of hunger?
It’s humans who hoard the food
And it’s humans who die of hunger.

An update to the Blogger post editor to help with mixed content

Post Type :
Back in September, we announced that HTTPS support was coming to blogspot.com, making it possible for you to encrypt connections to your blog; since then, many of you have enabled HTTPS for your blogs. In some cases, not all of your blog’s functionality has worked over HTTPS due to mixed content errors often stemming from your template, gadgets, or blog post content.

To help spot and fix some of these errors, we're releasing a mixed content warning tool that alerts you to possible mixed content issues in your posts, and gives you the option to fix them automatically before saving.

To use the tool, turn on HTTPS for your blog, open the Blogger editor HTML view, and click Save or Publish. If the editor detects any errors they will be shown above the editor, along with the option to fix the errors found.

How to get your Car's Sand Blasted Headlights Cleaned in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (Updated)

Originally Posted on Monday, July 15, 2013:

After traveling 40,000 km in KSA, the headlights of my car got really dirty and the intensity of light on the road got very dim. This happened mainly due to sand storms and the terms used in KSA for that is sandblasted headlights. Dim headlights can be dangerous and can lead to accidents.

I visited 4 branches of Petromin Express as they offer headlights cleaning, the conclusion of those visits is as follows:
  • Charges for cleaning 1 headlight is SR 75 so SR 150 for 2 headlights
  • Some branches do not have the facility of cleaning headlights
  • They only clean the headlights from outside and they are not sure if cleaning the headlights from outside would serve the purpose
  • It takes 2-3 hours for the chemical to dry after sunset so better to visit in daytime
  • They didn’t look very keen to perform this task

By asking here and there I got to know about a Car Wash (Talmiya) service who clean headlights. Their details are:

Name: New Car Talmiya
Coordinates: 24.747706,46.774646
Google Maps Link: http://goo.gl/maps/pzyfZ
Address: Petromin Pump, Khalid Ibn Al Walid St, Ar Rawdah, Riyadh

They checked and confirmed there is no need to clean the headlights from inside, after some negotiation they agreed to clean the headlights and to place a protected sheet on the headlights for SR 150. The sheet has a guaranty of 1 year and you can easily get it replaced which I think is better then getting headlights cleaned again and again. After cleaning, the headlights look as good as new.

Update (5th August 2015):
After some time of my 1st visit in July 2013, I visited New Car Talmiya again but this time, they asked for a lot of money, they were asking a lot of money even for removing the last protection sheets they had installed. I checked around and someone guided me to cheaper shops nearby, I went their took their services and it was a disaster, they damaged 1 headlight and bumper paint while cleaning the lights. So I would highly recommend not to visit anyone who is not expert in cleaning headlights!

After some time, I visited New Car Talmiya again and after some negotiations, they charged me around SR 150 for the same services. I couldn’t find the same Filipino there who did the cleaning for the 1st time, he was very good, this time, the cleaning was not that good.

I asked some car mechanics from time to time about best headlights cleaning services available in Riyadh and some informed me to visit Al Garabbi Street, Al Batha. On 17th June when I visited Al Garabbi Street for new tires, I asked around and found the following person:

Name: Bashir
Nationality: Bangali
Mobile: 0538678714
Work: All Car Decoration related work including Headlights Cleaning, he doesn’t have a shop, he will take you to the relevant shop to get the work done.

For Headlines Cleaning from inside and outside and applying protection sheets, he took me to the following shop:

image_thumb[1]

Name: Cool Zone
Worker: Abdul Raheem‎
Nationality: Pakistani
Mobile: 0581153364
Coordinates: 24. 6459 46. 720381

This is the best Headlights Cleaning Service I have found so far. 1 headlight required cleaning from the inside, both headlights were cleaned from the outside, previous protection sheets were removed and new were applied, this all cost me SR 150. This shop is highly recommended!

Update (20th April 2016):
A reader (Muhammad Wasi) has informed that Abdul Raheem‎ has change his work. He is now doing work of Vehicle Sand Protection, Vehicle Weather Protection, Wind Screen Glass Protection, and Seat Cover work. But he can still guide you to a person for headlights cleaning.

NameX-Drive
Worker: Abdul Raheem‎
Nationality: Pakistani
Mobile: 0581153364
Coordinates: 24.647161, 46.720982

Useful Tip from a Reader:
Tashfeen Qayyum: Can be done yourself. Use toothpaste, rub it in, rub it off, this is especially effective for plastic headlamps (xenon). I also found a headlight cleaning kit from Hyper Panda, cost 30 SR. Contains paste and sand paper and polishing mitt. Mitt is attachable to a drill machine.
